Has Rolex ever made a case / bracelet style such as the one shown in the photo? I'm not familiar with that style...

BASSETHOUNDS and Safetrends, I've been saying that to others privately for a while now. It seems that we are becoming the test bed for some of the replica mfg's and their minions. They will post a watch asking if we think it's real or not and then make adjustments to their product based on how we pick it apart. The rash of Daytona's and DSSD are just an example. Just my

There are indeed many PM's being exchanged on that subject . I hope the MOD's listen in on those . I believe this section is beating the objet if not counterproductive in its current configuration .

Problem is .................. This section does serve it's purpose. Simply the amount of fungus we take off eBay on our free time is worth it.

Yes , absolutely . Don't get me wrong . No way we should stop " weeding " Ebay CL and all the others . I only think we should stop publicizing our findings and justifications . It's that info the "bad guys " are after .

There is no way to stop. If we do, that leaves a hole open for the scammers on eBay.

Only "security cleared" members can access ? I know it sounds bad and maybe impossible to implement . But it's a bit like millions of ordinary people like you and me have to strip down naked each time they want to take a plane because 2 or 3 maniacs carry Semtex around their goullies .

this may raffle some feathers, learning these watches is more then posting
that "something looks funny" or "it doesn't look right". it is (from my experience) listening, watching, reading and touching. right here on this forum, there are guys out there lets say Orchi, he has a blog with extremely intense dial information if there is variation, he has found it. tudorman, the band man. motomc1 and steve mulholland or springer(just a few examples) each on the these guys i have picked something up to step-up my game. buying books, like the best of time by james dowling and jeff hess or the book on vintage rolex sports models by martin skeet and nick urul. or the R series of rolex parts books. the vintage rolex brochures. or better yet, go to a nawcc watch show and just listen and hang out. but the best way is learning from my mistakes. you will get bit once in a while. i'm sure i can say this. anyone here that has owned 100 rolex's have been bit a few times. by the way i just bought a book on cartier tanks and patek this is how i learned it. quick story, motomc1 said to me one time, you take to long on I.D.'ing a 7928 just look at the position of the 7 to the 928 |

given a select few the " security cleared " access. hmmmm.
remember, when we post, there are 1000's out there that take these commits as 100% correct. just by posting a watch on this site can and will stain the watch on the net and destroy a sellers word. posting a watch here, "just because" can and will be seen as a negative i have had members of TRF call me, asking me my feeling on a watch that there bidding. that is posted right here on the watch-out section, there was nothing wrong. but it was posted here???? why?? |

Then , should we also make public why the experts decided it was indeed " of concern" that's another question . By posting it we give "feedback" to the frauds and they will learn from their mistakes , but it will also keep the average WIS from learning as that would have been the initial purpose of the section . How can we determine if this section is more useful to the frauds or to the average punter ? I have no answer to that , but I hope by putting these questions out that maybe someone can come up with the most balanced out solution . If there is no solution , there is no problem . |

My only comment is that this "watch-out" section jump-started and propagated my interest in Rolex watches. Back in July, I timidly posted an ebay auction on a watch that I had purchased and was amazed at the welcome and the wealth of knowledge that the members here displayed and freely offered. Since, I have seen the numerous one time posters who come and go. But I also have seen a few test the waters and settle in and learn - eventually offering their own personal insight. Since I have joined, I have purchased some of the authoritative books mentioned above and really created a fun hobby and collection for myself. I would hate to see new folks like myself shut out from this portion of the site. I think that we do a great service and save many many people from getting caught in a bad deal. Just my 2-cents!!

But still not all to difficult to circumvent for the more determinate frauds , as that has been proven on the for sale section . |
