Just noticed it this morning as I was admiring my V series 16610. To my horror right there in the most obvious place-on the highly polished case side opposite the crown-was a cluster of small scratches!!

They don't appear to be deep, and I have no idea how they got there. That's a pretty protected location, and I'm not a cuff link kind of guy. Mind boggling. I know the inevitable scratch was going to happen sooner or later, but would have preferred later. Cripes, now I might be forced to pick up a Milgauss or something to put in the rotation so my Sub doesn't get all the abuse.

If you are worried about scratches...the Milgauss is a BAD choice as back-upIMHO.

Lots of polished 904L everywhere!!!!

I have also noticed that my Rolex watches tend to be "de-flowered"

, in exactly the same place. May be this is due to the position I leave them at night to rest and apparently to be "de-flowered".

Anyway that's no big deal and eventualy unavoidable.

I really like the polished look, so I prefer to call the scratches "patina."

Yeah, I feel like a regular Buster Hymen. I know it was bound to happen, but the first one's always a bummer. I even have a designated wash cloth laid out on my counter to place my watch on when I'm showering (I'd hate to get it wet!!), and that's pretty much the only time it's not on my wrist. I guess a Milgauss would be a bad choice. Too much polished steel. Maybe in DLC??

Yeah it sucks when you get those "ghost" scratches. I was so pissed when I started noticing them. Scratches are inevitable.

my TT YM is getting a lot of "patina", and I am not 'flipping out' about it. I expect it to show signs of wear--- because I am wearing it.

My advice-- wear it in good health!!

Better than having someone else break her in, I suppose. I don't think I could look at her the same way again if that happened. That's why I fired my last wife!!

Totally agree!

If you think a little swirlies on your case is crazy, wait till you get phantom scratches on your PCLs!

Besides, IMO Subs are the tool watches that actually look better with battle scars

I'm guessing it's how you set your watch down when you're not wearing it. I set mine down to rest on the side opposite the crown, but I make sure it's on a soft cloth! Presto! No scratches!

go to hardware store and get metal polish call Fritz--comes in a tooth paste tube. It will polish out the metal scratch very well --I use it all the time. Mirror finish with a qtip

Same situation happen to my TT SUB only on the first 2 gold links on the near side of bracelet.... 45 minutes at Fast-Fix Jewelery repair ($25 at the mall , while I waited on the wife outside Banana Republic!) and LIKE NEW . Even went in at AD right there at mall and heard all kinda oooohhs & ahhhh's from them!
