Datejust purchase- good or bad?
My sister recently bought this watch. It has model #6824 and serial number 6,xxx,xxx b/w the lugs. The watch looks great. What do you think? She can still return it.

Is there something wrong with the dial besides being aftermarket? What's "not good" about the dial?
Is the whole dial aftermarket or just the diamonds? How can you tell all of this? |

The dial looks fine. The diamonds are aftermarket. Not sure if its the angle of the pictures but some look a little "off". Nice watch, enjoy!

The watch head and dial (noting the aftermarket diamonds) look good.
I have a question about the bracelet though, it may be ok. I just can't read the reference numbers. Could you have your sister tell us what the endlink ref number, last link ref number, and clasp numbers are? Also, it appears that one of the screws to a link is TOO short. You may want to have that checked/repaired as well. |

Thanks for taking the time to give input. The numbers on the bracelet are 78350 17. 551 is on the bracelet near the lugs.
Thanks again. |

I think the proper endlinks should be 551 b - not 551 (which may then be aftermarket). We can wait for Stan the band man or other members. The marking on the band 78350 17 are good though.

I just found an auction including the same combination end link/reference number. See below!

The seller listed the dial as aftermarket, most diamond dial Rolexs are.
Quote:
Does the date jump to the next within a few minutes of midnight? If so the movement is Rolex and that is the most important; it should keep time to an average daily rate: -4/+6. If the watch looks as good as it does in the pictures $2,000 is a fair price IF the stones are indeed diamonds. |

Wow- this is all very interesting. The watch turns to the next date right after 3 minutes to midnight.

I have a 1968 and 1988 DD and with ether watch both day and date jump at two minutes before midnight. I found they jump as the minute hand touches the two minutes before marker the second hand can be any ware.
