seiko blue/yellow/black orange monster!
i was recently beaten to a omega aqua terra by 15 mins
as i arrived to purchase it, the new owner was being seen out of the store. so i decided that the breitling superocean would make a better work watch anyway, and i hope to get one in orlando with a good discount when i have my shopping spree on friday(you do have january sales i hope!). but i have also become aware of the seiko monster, and was hoping that you guys could let me know what you all think.... it seems like a perfect beater/work watch and i have not seen any yellow ones about(hard to find?) but fancy the blue one, but it is over twice the price of the black and orange ones... i have also been told that they cannot be serviced at uk seiko dealers? cheers in advance

I have a black monster and highly recommend it. As for servicing, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not like Seiko would actually fix a broken movement. Rather, they replace the entire ebauche because it's more cost effective.
The Black and Orange are regular production models. The Yellows were a special edition as I believe the Blue was as well. They also have different movements than the Black/Orange movements. They can easily be had online for under US$200 and sometimes close to $100. Best watch you can buy for under $500 easy. Mine runs just outside COSC. |

i like the idea of the blue one, as it is limited but not as limited from what i can gather(im googling as we speak!)
a yellow one sold for $1300 but blues are about for $400 orange/black about $200 i think the blue has saphire crystal and the yellow has a cyclops?

I actually don't like the blue because IMO they missed the boat in the aesthetics. A blue dial (cool), a black chapter ring (not cool, should be blue) and red paint on the bezel (not cool, should match the dial). Of course, that's my opinion. If it smiles at you, go for it. |

i actually prfer the orange and black ones- maybe get a navy dial superocean
but im a bit pretentious and like the idea of anything thats limited edition i agree the blue one could have been great... i was considering the orange/coral dialled breitling but perhaps its a gamble best taken on a $200 watch!

I have a BM. Out of the box it was +30 sec. After 3 months settled down to what seems to be the norm of +15. I had it regulated a week ago and it is only +1 in that time. For the money $150 you can't beat it.

I have a Black Monster and it's a great watch. Like the others have said, the lume is awesome, and mine runs just out of COSC specs also. It's a great watch and you can't beat the price of them either.

What I have found over the years most Seiko's run out of the box run around + 20 secs. But soon settle down to around +10 but can quite easily be regulated to very much better. They are very fine watches, and one of my pet hates is when some call them beater watches. Now for myself all mechanical watches have there place, and if it was not for some of whats called by many.(The lesser brands), many could not afford to ever own a mechanical watch.

Here's my Monster. BTW, the bracelet has solid links on it, which is amazing for such an inexpensive watch. There are other watches out there costing thousands that don't have solid bracelet links. It really balances out the chunk of SS on top nicely.

I don't have a Monster, but do have a Seiko for a beater.
It's smaller than the Monster is, but still has that great lume! |
