My brother is a NetJets Captain, he wears a Breitling similar to that. I'll have to ask him which model it is.

This one actually is an EXTREMELY rare variation. It is the first model of Cosmonaute with the silvered subdials only available through AOPA in 1962.

I know of only 3 known examples. Mine, another collectors, and Breitlings museum. There's gotta be a few more floating around out there but they are rare indeed.

Scott Carpenter may have one. I know he wore a Breitling Cosmonaute on his Mercury flight, but I am not sure if it was the AOPA version.

Thanks for the compliments! It's the first time I got them together for a picture. I guess it is really kind of Space, Sea, and more Space

His predates mine by a few months to a year. It has black subdials. The Cosmonaute was created because of his suggestion to Breitling to make a 24hr watch.

A great artical about these is here. The author included a picture of mine in it.

Love the Speedy and the Dweller, both awesome pieces

But sorry the Breitling is not my cup of tea, the dial looks a bit too clutered IMHO.

Great post though.

I had a chance to speak to him about it last year. Scott told me he wrote to Breitling and requested that the company send him a watch for his space flight. The company complied. The watch arrived shortly before his flight. Although the model is now known as the Cosmonaute, I think he told me his watch did not have a model name on it. This was either because of the rivalry between the Russian and U.S. space program or because the model name came after his flight.
