The AD story - No discounts on all Stainless Watches?
So I went to the AD today looking at the GMT IIC....as I said before in my posts...the watch is calling me lately.
Well, I can't get these bastages to budge on the price. List or nothing... I am reluctant to buy preowned or over the Internet...even scared to buy one from the sales forum here because it's a lot of money... My only experiences so far have been from ADs and I'm tired of paying full price. They say Rolex has said no discounts on the watch...is this just a total lie from both ADs I have been to regarding Rolex SS models or perhaps just a Mayors policy? |

I have been offered a discount on this watch in NJ...and an AD told me today that I could get 10% on it. So I call Bravo Sierra

There are a lot of good reliable sellers that will give you a good discount on the watch--check TRF. They are out there.

I walked into my AD with cash in an envelope and they gave me a GMT-IIc for $5900, including tax. Them saying rolex has said no discounts is a lie!

There are sellers here on this forum that will go far beyond what any AD will ever do to make you happy and are honest in EVERY respect.
Read some of the threads discussing what some of our sellers have done to make things right when a watch was lost or some similar situation. Truly remarkable!

I did the exact same thing with the same amount and walked out of my local AD with a brand new GMT-IIc last month.

Thanks guys! I am also not trying to violate any rules in asking what you are paying for them but I swear both ADs told me..."we have been told by Rolex that all SS models can't have a discount".

My AD here in western canada can go as low as 5% on the daytonas SS, up to 10% on all other sports model and up to 15% on non-sports model..but that is as low as they would probably go as per my conversation with them.

No reason to put down the AD.
They have rent to pay, stores to operate, bills to pay. Running a bricks and mortar store takes money. You pay more for your watch, but you can get that warm fuzzy feeling when you buy it. You can see your salesperson face to face, you can try on as many watches as you like, and you can use your Amex card if you like. Someone in the store will probably ask you if they can get you a cup of coffee too. Not a bad thing. But you have to pay a little more for that. Like I said, whatever YOU are comfortable with. |

Why not do a Face to Face transaction if you are leery of the internet??? David SW and others sell BNIB GMTIICs. Otherwise, go to an AD, man up, pay full price for your piece of mind...and stop kvetching about discounts. Good luck. Post pics when you score your watch. |

Mayors are kind people, they do give discounts (on unsellable inventory up to 20%) But the truth is that this particular watch it is hard to buy at a discount tops 15% off retail if you are lucky and know the guy with the supply line. ..Greys are asking 10% off or less some of them. Anyway...I do know not know much about the subject.. |

I called around a bunch of AD's in Cali looking for a SS Sub, one offered 10% off over the phone but they were far away. I walked into a closer AD and told them there was an AD offering 10% but it would be a drive, asked them to match. They offered to cover taxes instead (9.25%).

We have one AD in Alaska, Ben Bridge. Nice people, very friendly, and a great staff... However, I have yet to be offered a discount.

Use one of the RECOMMENDED sellers on this fine forum. You will save a bunch of money and get the exact same watch as you would get from an A.D.
And, yes, if you are careful you can get the warranty card in your name! Pick DavidSW or Oscar and you will be a very happy camper. Just my two cents, of course. |

I went with another TRF member a few months ago and he got 15% off at Mayors on a GMT2c. If you have a history with them you can get a discount in these times. We went last week and it was like pulling teeth to get 5% off on an LV Sub. Mayors is still selling a good bit of watches in Central Fla. Not as much in the glory days when they were selling 5 per day at most locations.

Nobody offers a discount, you have to ask for it. I remember being upset with myself for not getting a big enough discount on my SS Sub...eight years later $3,200 seems like a heck of a deal for it! Try for the best deal you can get and then enjoy your new Rolex. If you are more comofortable with an AD, that is fine - but you will likely pay a little more for the comfort and peace of mind. Good Luck! -Pete

Bricks and mortar stores may have overhead but they CAN offer discounts.
When I bought my TT Sub...retail was around $6200 (way back) and wholesale was $4800. A nice profit margin for the store so if I'm paying full retail, then the coffee being served better come hand delivered by Juan Valdez... You're better off going with a grey market dealer here...

My AD will give me 20%-22% off of SS sports watches--although I am friends with him--except on Daytona--that is regular retail.

Of course there are discounts on these watches. Just like with a car you like, call or email a number of ADs, tell them what you want and see what they'll do for you. Let them know you have cash and are ready to buy and they'll discount the watch. No question you can do better than MSRP.

Depending on the AD & its inventory, I think you can still get 10% (or better) out there. If you have cash on hand, they would be hard pressed to shy away from that.
