Need Advice for a newbie
Hello,
I just joined the forum a few days ago... To give a brief background, Im into watches and so is my wife. Nothing really luxury in our possession at this time. The most expensive that we own is a Tag. We never did own a Rolex. We decided to kick it up a notch and buy a Rolex for the bought of us. Life is too short so we have to enjoy alittle :) This weekend we went to shop around from 2 big name AD just to see what we really want. I was debating between the GMT IIc and the Deep sea. But im leaning towards the GMT IIc. I think for my wrist its a well balance watch. My wife initially wanted a 21mm 0r 31mm SS with white gold bezel blue face datejust until she tried on a 21mm SS everose gold rolex. I can see my wifes face light up and i know it is the one for her. My question is...Bought AD told me that Rolex will be having a price increase sometime march... Is it true or a sales strategy? i read that Basel world is coming up soon and would announce new and updated products. I was planning to wait for it and see what would be offered. Now im having second thoughts about waiting for Basel world because of the possible price increase that AD is saying. Should i wait or buy now??? Let me know what your thoughts are... Thanks in advance. Allan |

If your buying brand new, do it from a gray dealer, or before Basel.
If your just looking for a nice Rolex, and can handle light use, try here on TRF. There are many people here selling great watches, and have a name to uphold. You'll be treated right either way! Good luck! |

The price increases may be real but the models you are looking at should be easy to bargain for. Take a look at Swiss Luxury and Alan Furman and you can see what kind of discounts you can get from grey dealers. Some of the guys at the forum can do even better. If these are your first rolexes, you should go with an AD just for the peace of mind.

Price increases are real and some ADs will not negotiate. If you know what you want and are comfortable pulling the trigger, then go for it (and post pictures) I have bought from both ADs and reputable grey market dealers. I was actually much happier with my grey market experience (Jon Todd; aka Admiralwar on eBay) Good luck!

So do most watch company commonly raise their prices before, on or after Basel world? Is this a yearly raise with prices?

I too had waaaay better experience on gray market (16613) , however my first experience way back in '95 (16610) was at AD . This was back when the Internet was a military communication network.... Nowadays with sites like TRF you are a lot safer.

I really recommend that you purchase from one of the many well respected sellers on this forum. I had a great experience with "justrolexes" on this forum and he is always selling different Rolexs. You will save a ton of money.

The new models may not be available till the end of the year after Besel 2010. Also the prices may go up. So it is really your choice. I would go with gmt2c because I am kind of a guy who wants the damn thing on my wrist NOW and cannot wait for another 10 months..

Price increases will definitely happen. However, depending on how you lean, I think you have a better shot at a few $$ off on the DSSD, only because it's the less sought (IMO) between the 2 models. I'm starting to see a lot of chatter with the new GMTIIc. As such, there may not be much movement. In terms of AD vs. Grey, that's more of a personal preference...buy the dealer first! Obviously there is more discount with the grey route.
