Watch needs regulated

My 5 year old datejust 116234 is running fast. Anyone know of a reliable place to take it in or around Philadelphia? I also noted my watch does not seem to respond to the recommendations of putting it face up or face down to speed up or slow down the watch. Are the newer rolexes not affected by this? How much is a reasonable price to pay for this?

How much fast is your watch running and yes its a very simple task by any good watchmaker to regulate any mechanical watch.Yes the cal 3135 dont seem to respond in different positions as the older 15XX series movements did.

It's not exactly in your back yard, but there is a Service Center In Lititz, PA.

However, there should be plenty of good watchmakers in Philly - ask one of the larger AD's for a recommendation ........

It is running about 6 seconds a day fast. I can live with it but I was hoping to get it down to about 2 seconds or less. Any idea what this would cost?

I had the same problem with my 16234, but my independent watchmaker wouldn't just regulate the watch- he wanted to do a complete service. I didn't have a problem with that, since the watch was due for a 5-year service anyway. He only charged $250 for the whole thing. I'm really pleased- he got the watch from +7 sec/day to +1 sec/day.

What I've seen on TRF also is that many watchmakers are reluctant to take the responsibility for opening the watch when only a minor adjustment is needed. Those who buy regularly from an AD seem to have less problem with an occasional adjustment.

Myself would leave it alone just cannot see the point of getting the back off for just say 3 or 4 seconds. And even if they did regulate it on the machine don't mean it will perform same on wrist..And to test any watches accuracy it no good saying its about.I would do a accurate test first wind watch fully 40 crown turns clockwise, set watch with reliable time source.Wear as normal check time daily with same setting source over 5 days then average out the loss or gain if still within the COSC spec a average of -4 to + 6 secs a day
leave it alone.

Before you go & spend big bucks on it, take by any good jewelry shop that has it's own watch maker, and have it de-magnatized & see what that does. You never can tell, but you might have had the watch in close proximity to a strong magnet at some point in it's life. It only takes a couple of minutes, and the last time I had mine done, they didn't even charge me for it. It slowed mine down quite a bit. I'm around stong electrical fields at work all the time, and I think that's the reason all my watches tend to run fast. I guess I'll have to starting looking for a Milguass to finish out my career on the Railroad.
