The White Gold Daytona
Put one on my wrist today. Love the red !
Now the question for me is .... is it worth the big $$$. I could have purchased it today, but see little difference between a SS & WG Daytona. What is your opinion? |

Hell on that note ...... I think the 18K Daytona would be a better investment.

The only Daytona I really like is the meteorite with either the black (preferably) or tan (second choice) strap. The meteorite only comes in WG. So not much of a choice there.

Honestly, if I did go in for full gold, then it's gotta be YELLOW. WG looks very often more like SS!!

I wish I could, but right now, I can't quite justify spending that kind of money on something that will likely sit on the winder 90% of the time once the novelty of having it wears off.

I'm probably being a wet blanket here, but I can't see the point of WG - like JJ said, if you're going to take on the added expense of gold, it may as well show.

Well Mark if I was in the market for a Daytona, would sooner pay list
or a bit less for the w/gold,but myself prefer Y/gold, that to pay grossly inflated prices for S/steel.

I guess it would be worth getting it just for the sake of style. I wish I could get the dial to retrofit to my steel Daytona. That would be ideal. :-) |

In Canada the YG Daytona lists at CDN$33,160 and the YG lists at $36,210... more than $3K of a premium for WG. I had one in my hands a couple of months ago and while the WG is nice, I'm not a fan of either the white or black dial.
I asked the salejerk..oops, I mean salesclerk why the premium and she said, "well you know... white gold is more expensive to manufacture than yellow gold." I told her that I know it is, but it's not $3K more, and as a SS Daytona costs $9,520, the is no way the 116509 has $26,000 worth of white gold in it. She actually agreed with me and said Rolex charges more because they can and people will pay it. I wouldn't buy it if I had the money. I'm so off the whole Daytona thing now. However, if I had a gun to my head, I'm like Ed... I'd take the WG with the meteorite dial on a black strap (is the claps wg too?). |

Well, Johnny, the fact is....no YG or TT watch out there is really worth the money you pay for considering the amount of actual 18 K gold you get in return.
You are paying for its ornamental and "bling" value, that's all. An SS is always better value for money by far. JJ
