Why should you get a Daytona over the AP Royal Oak Off Shore?

Already having a rolex would you choose to experiment with a watch as highly regarded as the AP?

What are pro cons to each?

There really are no pros and cons when deciding on high-end watches.. It all boils down to what you want to wear on your wrist............

For me, I simply do not like the looks of the AP .......... Daytona, all the way..

Well I am seriously considering an AP Royal Oak Chrono for my next high end purchase, it's slightly smaller than the Offshore but has similar looks.

While I love the Daytona, I am just not willing to pay over MSRP or wait 2+ years on a list.

I really like the look of the AP's, but I guess you should just get the one you prefer, the Daytona is one hell of a watch.

Daytona is a really pretty watch, no doubt. In any metal or combo. But it's just getting too popular to maintain any kind of unique "wow" factor, IMO. I mean, when you start seeing Ellen Degeneres sporting one, and fashionable Holly-trash women with them loosely bangling on their wrists, you know it's just too much of a female fashion staple.. Just sayin'...

It never worries me who else is buying the watch,how many are buying it,what they are doing with it or reasons why they buy it!!

For me it is entirely about me and the watch...(That is complex enough for my brain!!!!!).

I know, I really shouldn't let it bother me, but it just pains me to see a man's race inspired iconic watch being so casually slung around like a Gucci or Louis Vuitton purse

Anytime I've seen a female (celebrity or not) with a SS Daytona, she's had the white dial version. Get the black dial version and you probably will remain in more exclusive company for a while. Maybe that's why in many parts of the world the black dial commands a slight premium over the white.

I sort of doubt there really are many females (celebrities or not) with their own SS Daytona that they wear regularly. I just think we WIS-folk tend to notice such things more when it does occur. It really is without a doubt a men's watch no matter who wears it.

But I see how it can be annoying. We discovery the Rolex modern grail wathc and celebs and others jump on the bandwagon with no idea why they are doing it. They just know it's really hard to get with a long waitlist.

Is one known to be more accurate then the other? What type of myth does the AP movement carry with it? (rolex movements having that blue hairspring)

AP has been around.. one of the oldest 3 watch makers if im not mistaken?

anyone here own one?

I love the AP Royal Oak Chronograph (NOT the offshore), i think its a beautiful watch.

However when it comes to the ROO, i'm not too big of a fan. If you seriously like both watches....i'd say go for the daytona...while its relatively more easily attainable than before, the AP is always around....i'm not sure what AP's price increases are like..but someone at Rolex is smoking somthing strong and has been increasing prices like crazy over the last few years as though they were trying to fund the coke habit of a baby elephant.

I won them both--they are both amazing watches. They are both very different--the Daytona is my work watch--The AP is a weekend watch. It all depends on what you like.

I think that they are both very desirable watches, both stunning "in house" movements, IMHO styling wise they are very far apart, to my eyes the AP looks more "workman like" and, dare I say it, more day to day wear, the Daytona is, again IMHO, a more beautiful watch, to me, it all depends on when and where one would wear the watch and how it looks on the wrist.

If I was given either watch, I wouldn't be disappointed.

The only reasons I would not buy AP ROC is resale value and WR at 50m. Both watches will sell used at about the same price range. This is not the case when you buy new.

...and the AP is better if you don't want the "Ooh is that a Rolex?" comments.

If you're indifferent between the two, the Daytona is a lot cheaper - isn't the list on the ROO around $20k?

You can get an AP for 13,500-14k BNIB. The Rubber clads not common used on the market--once in a while and if a G--newer one--they usually go for 12k plus.

Not a huge fan of the modern daytona even the less of any of the RO line up .Great movement but IMHO its just a shame about the strap case dial.

SS Daytona is still cheaper than AP RO and IMHO Daytona is a much better looking watch. AP does not do anything for me.

is there a difference in movements between the Royal Oak Chronograph and the Offshore

Offshore is the watch to get as it holds it value better than a regular royal oak. I have an offshore rose gold and of all the watches i have bought and sold i am unable to part with the rose gold offshore. Very hefty watch with very low production numbers. I think the total annual production for all AP watches is around 20k watches. Check the Ap forum on TZ and you will have all your questions answered pretty quick.
Your original question was why one watch over the other? Sorry but there is no right answer, if you can afford it try both. No question there is a place in a collection for both.

Personally, I prefer the ROC to the Daytona. Very similar watches, but the ROC has a date and is pretty neat. It's also a watch that most people won't recognize as a high end watch which is nice too. I don't care for the offshore models, just the good old 40mm ROCs.... Really, either way you cannot go wrong!

Hideous looking---think not--They are without a doubt one of the top 3 watchmakers in the world. I own both a Daytona and AP ROO-different--yes--hideuous--no. Taste is subjective--many people think Rolexes lack quality--me not being one of them--though many highend dealers would disagree with me and often do. If they were hideous they would not be regarded as they are!

Just offering my opinion on the looks of the ROO, not disputing the reputation of AP. I think the ROO is one of the ugliest watches around. I try to see the uniqueness and beauty of every watch, but the ROO makes me want to throw up in my mouth a little bit every time I see it. Sorry.

Having had Zenith and in-house Daytonas before, I can say the ROO is just a totally different animal. PM me if you have specific questions.

In my opinion they are oh so different in looks......Would seem to me, that it should be real easy for one to know which is more appealing to that person....For me it is easily the looks of the Daytona.

Only other senario, is when someone loves the looks of both; then the question isn't which to buy, but rather which to buy first.
