OK....i kno i have been postin alot but i feel as if i have lost my way. I am thinking of selling the sub as you kno....i got an offer for a red/black GMT2 plus cash. the GMT seems so much more versatile and still gives me the oyster i love and a date. any opinions?

I voted you hang on to your Sub for the time being, but if the cash offer on the GMT-II is really very good and if the condition of the GMT-II is mint, then go for it!!
In all fairness, the GMT-II is a more practical watch, especially if you're a regular traveller. Good luck either way. Cheers - JJ

I voted for the GMT II. More versatile. Both are winners though.

Unless you travel it seems like a toss up...go with the one that you prefer to wear! Personally I'd take the GMT.

Which one smiles at you? Do you need to dive to 300 meters or do you need to tell the time in another country or time zone?

that's pretty tough... I would honestly do it... depending how much cash and how good of a condition the watch is in.... the reason is I could always just sell the watch if I felt i needed a new one. I would think of it this way... If I could easily get 4500$ CAN (your price) for a GMT II + CASH then I say go for it... worse comes to worse you'll break even no? AND it is a nice watch still!

I voted for the Sub. The GMT is a versatile watch with the 24 hour hand and bezel intechange options, but when you get to the short strokes the Sub is the quintessential Rolex.

Jeez.... Ok, I went with the GMT because of versatility. If at some point you want the all black look you can always get an insert.

I've had both. Actually, I sold the red/black GMT for a 16610. The practicality is pretty much a non-issue IMO, unless you're an avid traveler. It comes down to which one smiles at you the most

Very hard call. Both watches are great but it really depends on the deal.If you were not losing on the Sub and the GMT was in good nick there would be no reason not to.
Obviously you have researched your needs and wants and both will do the job.The advantage of the GMT is the different bezel inserts available which will give you 3 looks from one watch. The only other deciding factor would be what accessories come with the GMT.that being paperwork etc. Good luck. |

Keep the sub Pete. It works well for you now. How often do you use the second time zone?

depends on how much cash... but if you think your better off with the GMT (on looks alone if you dont use the 2nd time zone hand) then why not treat yourself?

I would say keep the Sub. It's a classic that will never go out of style.
Don't get me wrong though, the GMT 2 is a beautiful watch with versatility. |

Personnally, I'm all about the subs. However, I'm also a money man. So if it's a decision based on money you can always go back to a sub if the GMT doesen't smile as much. You can't go wrong with either one. But in my experience I think the Sub is sought after a little more than the GMT. Just my 2 cents.
Thx, Steve |

Pete, I can tell you what I did >>>>>
I chose the Submariner only because I travel infrequently and love the all black styling and water resistance of the Sub. I'm sure the WR of the GMT would be fine for my water activities but I just didn't need the GMT funtion. However, I also really like the black/red GMT but in the end went Sub. If you travel much especially for business then maybe, for you, the GMT is better suited. Good luck in your final decision.
Cheers, JimC |
