Rolex boxes....inner and outer
Can anyone tell me if there is a reference page or info, on the correct box and outer box type and colour used for the GMT's (1675/16750/16760/ 16700/ 16710). How do you know when buying used, that the boxes supplied are the originals or do they also come with reference numbers that can be checked out ?

There is no set chart or way to know..
Watches are shipped to Dealers in a little plastic case............. in the early days, they were in plastic sleeves.............. That way, these high dollar pieces of jewelry can be better safeguarded, inventory controlled, and locked up.. The boxes are shipped seperately by the carton-load in the back of a truck....... It is up to the Dealer to put a watch in a nice box for the customer. The box may have sat around the store for a while, or it might be one right off the truck............. you never know.. Generally, small boxes for SS models, medium boxes for TT models, and large boxes for Gold models... then there are some specialty boxes such as Pearlmasters and Presentations etc... One thing you can be sure of is that today, sellers bend over backward to make sure that they have a box...regardless if it's the "right" box or not.. It's an interesting phenomenon that I find fascinating............

Well Leo , I guess there is little chance to get the wrong box for that model ... just this or no box ( or jar in this case ) . That looks in great condition too .
What is it made of ? It surely looks it is covered with leather . |

Interesting topic. Thanks for the great info, Larry...
Yeah, I suppose the watch comes with the tags and the warranty card---as those are the only things that have matcing serial numbers. |

Yes it's leather covered on the outside and lined with suede on the inside. |

My 16710 Coke (Y series) came in the green inner box, with the green/white cardboard box outside...

Hi! You will likely find different boxes for different markets. GMTīs sold in the US have had US made boxes. GMTīs sold in Europe will have boxes made in Switzerland. On European made boxes you will find a white small sticker on the side of the outher box stating the referencenumber of the watch. I canīt tell you if this is the case with US made versions. There is a webpage on the net describing boxes for Rolex but it only reflects the US versions. Unfortunately I do not have the URL any longer. Christian |

It all depends on which box the AD grabs when the watch is sold.

We do have a Rolex watch box database project in the Reference Library...
It may be helpful, if not absolutely difinitive......... There are literally dozens of boxes that may be "correct" for several different models.........
