Nothing 'better' as such e.g. the water-resistant depth rating is unchanged for Subs.

Pehaps its easier to machine who knows, then they can produce more quickly myself not a fan of the so called super case.

Just another reason to get people upgrading if you ask me. "Supersize" anything and it instantly makes everyone think it is better.

In some cases it works, in others, It doesnt. I like the thicker case on the DJ, but the Sub case was perfect as it was and didnt need to be updated. It's not that I don't like the new sub, I just dont think the super case did anything special.

It is an evolutionary step away from the old case.

It wears significantly larger than the old case, yet it is still 40mm.

The Fatter case looks more macho and the jumbo crown guards ad to this look.

Also, the Submariner is the most copied watch in the world. By beefing up the case and giving it more of a circle in a square look, it makes it look more trademark and more difficult for people to copy without being obvious.

Also, the larger maxi markers with the fatter minute hand gives it a bolder, more retro look, while increasing time-reading visibility.

The Supercase is also attached to a revolutionary new glidelock bracelet that allows the wearer to micro-adjust the bracelet without even taking if off.

The all-new ceramic bezel insert gives the watch more of a 3 Dimensional look like the etched bezel on the Yachtmaster, which gives the watch a bolder and more distinct look.

i'm reserving judgment until i see it in the flesh, but, these points are pretty convincing!

You see 16610 as traditional cases. But I see 1680 as traditional cases. welcome to the world of vintage

116610 just make it up-to-date like GMTiic, DJ 116233 (for e.g.) did that before.

I own the GMTIIc in the super case, and after 15 months the novelty has worn off. I MUCH prefer the older case. I have about gotten to the point I and going to trade it for an older GMTII.

Hi Eddie

Before you trade the IIc, compare with the Sub C (i.e. a gold or TT model) and see how much wider the Sub's lugs are. Makes the the IIc seems a little 'mellower' in that regard

Huge +1,

I was really interested in a new GMT IIc until I had a close look at the "super" case. Bloated whale that it is, if they changed the case lugs to wider, why on earth did they just leave the braclet alone, it is way too small in proportion to the case and looks goofy, not as bad as the DSSD which is almost cartoonish, but pretty close. total deal breaker, I'll stick with the classics thank you. The older case style and bands are just too close to perfect to need to change. It seems that Rolex caved in to market pressures for ever increasing watch size, but didn't actually go all the way to making the new watches consistant with regards to the overall design. Ok if you like a monster watch make the whole thing bigger, not just the case...... Sorry if I offend you super case lovers, this is only my opinion, and if you are happy with your watch then all is good.

Looking from the top the DSSD case lug shape is similar to the classsic Sub and so does not resemble the super case.
From the side it is a different story and I like it!!

I recently bought a V series Sub Date specifically because I wanted a sub before it went to the Super Case. I much prefer the older style cases as they seem to flow much better with the Oyster Bracelet. I don't like huge watches and it seems that Rolex is following the lead of its competitors in this regard.

than the older look. To me, it's a more technical appearance. The heavier crown guards appear to match the ends of the lugs in width for a more balanced look, things like that. Maybe it has something to do with proportion vis-a-vis the Golden Mean and the Fibonacci Series of numbers. I haven't measured, but I would not be surprised if the ratios of various aspects of the new case worked out to 1.6180339887:1.
