Discount at the AD.
Hello. This is my first thread.
In my quest for my holy grail I have recently become a TRF member. Let me start by thanking all veteran TRF members for the infinite amount of knowledge and information on the forum. I plan on purchasing a Rolex in the very near future. Reading up on TRF I have noticed that alot of American and Asian TRF members get good discounts on brand new Rolex purchases form AD's when paying cash. Or so they say.... Being a European resident; the Netherlands to be more precise; I was wondering if the same applies in Europe. Do you Euro-based TRF members in particular get discounts on a luxery watch purchase and if so, how do you go about it? |

Any additional cash discount will only be 2-3%. The ADs in the US seem to be willing to play ball if you come at the right time and start tapping your credit card on the counter. Other places, like London by report, are unwilling to discount. I think that this is one of the reasons that Rolex is decreasing the number of ADs in the US. More demand per dealer equals little or no discounts. Good luck. Consider the fact that you MAY be able to get a great deal from a trusted dealer from the TRF community.

I would think any discount David could provide would be chewed up by customs duties (OP lives in the Netherlands). As far as I know, there are no "trusted TRF" sellers in the EU. As far as cash vs. credit, and deals in Europe, I'm not sure. At least in France, people tend to buy a lot more things with cash, check or bank account card as opposed to credit cards, so, I would think there wouldn't be an extra deal if you pay in cash. On my Rolex, a good price was negotiated, and cash/no cash didn't come up during discussions. Quote:
I'm not sure why Rolex would care that much....The discount comes out of AD profits. Unless, I suppose, Rolex thinks that with fewer ADs not giving discounts, Rolex can then increase their share by demanding the ADs give Rolex more money instead of giving customers discounts? |

Thank you for post Jones. In the Netherlands most people pay by PIN or Credit Card. Hardly anyone carries cash nowadays.
More posts would be greatly appreciated. For example when asking for a discount, what would be reasonable percentage wise? |

I went with AMEX for the miles. I don't understand why more people don't take advantage of offers like that around here (Paris)..... Quote:
I think that really depends on the model..... But, FWIW, when doing diligence before my first purchase in March, I heard that the best discounts people were getting in Paris were 10%. I managed to get 10% on my Explorer II white dial. Good luck!! Please report back with what you got (and include lots of pictures, LOL). Another thought is to post something like this in the Rolex general discussion forum, since it is Rolex related....I think that forum gets more traffic. (Or, ask a mod to move the thread there?) Last edited by Cru Jones; 7 May 2010 at 10:38 PM.. Reason: "here" means Paris, not TRF....LOL. |

10% on sport models here in Manchester UK.
Speak with DavidSW though, and discuss the options to avoid Tax/Import Duty. He's an absolute 1st class seller and I couldn't recommend him enough.

Buying advice.
I cannot see why you have problems finding any Trusted EU sales folk, there are many both here and on other Rolex sites.
You should be buying from the UK, firstly our list prices are less than the Eurozone prices and secondly, the shops are more likely to come and go a bit on price, if you know where to look. Or better still, contact one of the grey sellers via this site and see what they can do for you. As they tend to buy in large amounts and also manage to help out the Rolex retailers by shifting their "ordinary" models (non sport, ladies and precious metal watches.) they tend to look favourably on us when it comes to price and availability. And nothing against our US sellers, but I have yet to receive anything from the US which has not incurred a TAX penalty which has all but negated the saving I would have potentially made. So why not hop onto a cheap flight to Edinburgh or Glasgow and I will be delighted to introduce you to the world of bargain Rolex models. Kindest regards from a very sunny Scotland. I had been talking to a sales person at US AD in CA for quite some time ( Ben Bridge) about a SS GMT IIc . When I was ready to pull the trigger on a purchase, I had asked for discount and I was willing to pay by wire/check/cash. The response I got back was "unfortunately no, we can't discount". I didn't try any other chain stores, but I expect I would get the same answer...Maybe try an independent...

When I buy, I go in there and tell them I mean business, quote a discount from another AD and if they can't beat you'll buy there.
Always bargain a bit. |

I tod a smaller AD what I wanted and what I was willing
to pay. Of course, this after visiting the store a few times and getting familiar with the salesperson. I got 15 off as well as 12 months no interest financing. It is possible if you shop and tell them what u r willing to pay.

I bought my GMT-ll 16710 coke bezel and Sub LV at a chain AD and was unable to get any discount. Since then I've found an independent AD that has occasional sales events and was able to get my wife a SS Datejust "Z" serial number with a 50% discount and a Subdate 16610 "V" serial for a 15% discount. Much nicer to deal with too.
