Icon20 My little tudor prince

Hola amigos!!
I´d like to share this little watch with fellow members at TRF.

This is a Tudor Prince Quartz Oysterdate bought brand new in 1983 by my Dad, at a local Rolex AD, and now owned by me.
As it name clearly tells, it got a quartz movement. I´m not a big fan of “electric” watches, but I got a few, being my only ones I´m really fond of, this one and my Rolex quartz.

This is a little watch, being 33 mm diameter case, a bit small for today standards.
Face is gray color, with a sunburst effect on its polishing. Baton hands with luminescent paint and small dots of same paint on its markers.

Case is more straight angled than the typical curved case of Oyster Rolex watches, when you observe it from the front side.

Its quartz movement is amazingly precise. I have conducted a little test lately and in the last three weeks since I had its battery changed and I got the watch synchronized with our National official time radio signal, it lost 1 second in 21 days. This is an excellent working in my books!!

I have very little info about this watch except that its reference nr is # 91500, and its serial number is in the 21.000 range.
So if some Fellow members have any info regarding these type of watches, their comments will be more than welcomed.

As said, three weeks ago, the local Official Rolex service changed its dead battery, and gave a quick check of its workings (everything free of charge!!).
After battery change and revision, the Rolex technician told me that watch was working well within specs, but also gave me a bit of bad news: he said that if something would go wrong in the future with this type of mechanism, no more replacement parts are available presently for it. This news scared me a bit, but it will not keep me away from wearing it.
I usually wear this watch when I need a low key & inconspicuous time piece, especially when visiting some unsafe neighborhoods, for working reasons. A Rolex watch is definitive no, in such places.

As you may see in the pictures, different details, like the clasp construction and its inscriptions, as well as the case back markings and the original winding crown, and Cyclops lens on date feature, give a good hint of its Rolex heritage.

I hope you like my little watch, and may be some additional info will arrive in this thread.
Have a nice week, and best cordial regards, Abel

That is a great watch with a lot of history! One of the few watches with a crown and a battery. Too bad when it comes to parts but I would think you will find watchmakers that have or will produce parts if need be.

Thank you for your kind comments Fred!!
Yes, I hope someone will find a way of repairing this piece in case it is needed in the future. I´ll not think about this now, and will enjoy my little Tudor in the meantime.
Thanks again! Very cordially, Abel

Abel, that is one magnificent looking watch! All that matters is that you enjoy wearing it.

I thought I had collected all the Tudors I wanted but looking at your watch makes me want to add an Prince Quartz to my collection.

Some day....

Thank you for allowing me to see your watch.

Abel. - That, imo, is a great looking watch. Something I would consider to own.
It's clean, simple, casually ellegant, with character..and stands out in a subtle way.
I like it.. as you do too!
Enjoy senior..!

Hello Chris:
Thank you for your comment.
If you read carefuly my original post, you´ll find that I did mention the original winding crown, and that´s why I took the picture of it.
The case has inscriptions of Rolex, and the crown has the coronet symbol, and it is the original which came with the watch.
As a matter of fact, the watch is in near mint condition, with very little actual wearing.

Thank you for posting! Very cordially, Abel

Abel, I wasn't questioning why there was a Rolex logo on a Tudor

I was referring to the actual quality (or lack of) of the actual crown. It's very squashed. The first 3 points almost touch, then the last 2 space out. I know this is an oldish piece, but I've seen Subs from the early 70s with more precise logo stamps.

Hello Chris!!
Thanks for your message. I didn´t take offense for your comment in anyway.
Just wished to point that I had mentioned it.

Anyway, you are right.
I had this watch for years, and never paid attention to the coronet on crown!!

Now that you point it, YES you are right!! Looks weird, isn´t it?

I´ll take a look tonight at home. I guess it is an effect of light on picture that makes it look a bit weird looking crown!!
Will tell you again after I look at it closely, and if possible will take a close up.
Thank you again!!

Russell: Thanks for your comment!
Very cordially, Abel

Hello Chris!!
You surely got a hawk´s eye!! You were right. I looked to the crown coronet through a magnifier glass, and then took a couple of photos.
The coronet two left round finials touch one with the other, making an odd looking coronet.
I had never paid attention to this little detail, in almost 30 years of owning this watch, first my dad, and since about ten years myself.
The crown is the original one which came with this watch, as the only work I had done in it, is changing batteries, free of charge, at the local Rolex Service.

I guess this is a little "faux pass" of the Rolex/Tudor factory, or may be (just guessing!), Rolex sent Tudor those crowns with little flaws??

Thank you for bringing me attention on this detail.

Best cordial regards, Abel

That's a very nice watch. Maybe you should consider wearing something different in such neighbourhoods as it does look quite a lot like Rolex from a distance.

Cheers!
