First rolex recommendations? Thoughts of Daytona offer.

Hello Rolex Enthusiasts,

I've been roaming around this community for a few days now but still haven't been able to find the answer to my questions.

1.) I am looking to get some advise from you experienced owners. I am currently in the market for my first Rolex. Which Rolex do you recommend for a first (of hopefully many) and why?

Here is some info regarding myself: I am a young (25 yrs old) professional (accountant), living a bachelor lifestyle. I dress business during the week for work and like to dress casual during the weekends to go out partying or socializing. I work out and play sports multiple times a week, so I'd have to take the watch off. Got a house and car, so all i am missing is a Rolex (or two).

2.) Also, I have been offered from a close friend, a year old, worn occasionally, SS Daytona, M series, black face. Paper work included and he could have told me it was brand new and i would have believed it. What are your thoughts of this watch at $9K and $8K (Canadian), as price may be negotiable.

All of your advise/shared experiences are greatly appreciated.

That's a pretty good price for an M-series!! Plus you know the owner so you know the history of the watch!!

Buy it! If you don't like it after a few months flip it for a GMT-IIc and some cash. That's a win win situation!

go for it!

A M series SS Daytona with papers for $8K CD from a trusted seller is a deal too good to pass up.
Grab it while you can and welcome to the Rolex world. What a great way to start!
Can I buy it if you don't.

Hi, for a first rolex, a 116520 black dial is a really goooooooood choice! So if the watch is in good condition with papers and certficate, by it.
PS: if you want go with your friend to local Rolex AD for checking the authenticity of this Daytona, if your friend is agree of course.

you could get a pre-owned sub(weekends & casual) & a pre-owned explorer 1(can be worn w/ any look) and have 2 Rolexes right away!!!!!!

Just coming back from lunch and see all the replies!
Thanks for the input everybody.

The only reason why I am considering this over other watches is because I feel like I'm getting it at a price that if I regret the purchase sometime down the road, I would be able to retain most of what I paid for it, vs purchasing and losing immediate value on a brand new one. If I didn't have this offer, i would probably be more interested in the Deep Sea. My friend has one and I think it's really nice, though i havent had the opporunity to really see others and compare.

Theken - I think my friend prefers to sell to a friend, but if that doesn't work out, i would pass your interest along to buddy.

Question regarding photos: Why do people cross out the later part of the serial code of the certificate card? What is the risk if people knew the #?

I agree with those above, that's a great deal on the Daytona.

Re your question on crossing out the s/n on photos - one reason is so some malicious person in some dark corner of the internet can't report your watch as stolen.

As others have already said, 8K is a great price for a mint Daytona. Buy it or tell me where to buy it.

You get some investment protection with that price for the Daytona so as others have suggested pick it up and flip later if you desire. There hae been some good deals on some previoously loved and new DSSDs here on TRF as well.....better than the price you are paying for the Daytona....Either way you will be a happy guy...trust me!!
