Rolex Service Question
I've been lurking on this forum for a while and am making my first post...
After doing much research (here, largely, thanks to all) I purchased my first Rolex a month or two ago. I bought, a pre-owned platinum YM locally and haven't had a second of buyer's remorse. In any event, it's consistently gaining 10 seconds per day. I can live with it, but it's a minor annoyance. What I'm wondering is how concerned with this should I be and, if I take it to my nearest AD, is this the type of thing they could likely fix locally, or would it have to go to a Rolex service center? I'm not ready to part with it for an extended period of time for a few seconds a day just yet. Some kind of vague questions, I know, but any thoughts would be appreciated. |

It depends on whether your AD is an authorized dealer for repairs.....

Thats a bit much in my opinion... A larger AD should have no problem regulating this for you. In fact, I had this done today with one of my watches, it took all of about 30 minutes... Take it in if it bothers you, it did me.

How old is the watch? It's possble that it may need a full service, not just a regulation.

Thanks guys. It's a D serial. The distinction between regulating and full-blown servicing is what I was looking for. The 10-second per-day gain is as regular as, well, a swiss watch.
I'll try giving it a full manual wind and if then take it in for regulating if necessary. |

My SD is gaining time above spec...I called every AD around metro Detroit and no one will do regulation. They all advocate sending to RSC. One in Birmingham said 'Well....had you bought it from me...blah blah blah'....
Anyone had regulation done in SE Michigan at all? Be interested who you went to and what your circumstance was. Thanks in advance...Rick

I found the same problem- even my independent watchmaker wouldn't open the watch just to regulate a 7 sec/day gain. Finally, I went back with a request to do a dial change, and he demanded that he do a full service. Since it was due for a routine service, I didn't have a problem with that, and essentially got the dial change for free, and the regulation is great. I've heard that watchmakers don't want the responsibility for opening the watch just for a minor adjustment. I think some on the list have a long-term relationship with their watchmaker, and so get some special service.

Rolex in new York told me that 3-5 seconds fast or slow is normal. But I agree with earlier post that an AD should hopefully have the tools and resources to regulate locally. The AD I go to has the capabilities at both of thier locations.

RSC is the best bet.
