Watch Journal Magazine SNUBS the Daytona!!!

A few days ago I picked up the April edition of "Watch Journal" Magazine. Looking at the contents I notice they devoted a section to chronographs, so I was looking forward to reading the story.

Finally this evening I had a chance to sit down, have a cup of coffee and dive in to the magazine. The chronograph story was very good, with descriptions of different features and functions, flyback, tachymeters, one button vs. three buttons etc, very good reading. They had pictures and write ups of several models, including a Patek, a Piaget, a Paneri, and several watches whose name I can't pronounce and could never afford, (one was over half a million dollars!!! ) but as I turned the last page of the article, I was shocked! They said NOTHING about the DAYTONA!!!!

Are you kidding me!? Arguably the most Iconic chronograph of all time is completely ignored in a supposed authoritative watch publication's article on famous chronographs!!?? Nothing against Paneri but they felt it necessary to includ a Paneri Chronograph and NOT a Daytona!? Sorry, and call me biased, but like or dis-like the Daytona, it is one of the most famous chronograph wristwatches of all time, but it doesn't deserve even a mention in Watch Journal.

I wrote an E-mail to the editor, asking how they could possibly ignore the Daytona, they'll probably do the same thing to my E-mail. I lost a lot of respect for this magazine tonight.

There's Daytona........and everything else. The editors probably thought they were doing a public service educating the market about "the others".....

Some watch nuts just don't get the Daytona's place in history. Why they would do a story on Chronographs include the Pam, and not cover the Daytona or the Speedmaster is beyond stupid!

I never heard of this publication, but after browsing the digital edition, I'm going to proffer that Rolex wasn't willing to pony up the requisite scratch to get mentioned.

Paul, that is amazing .... The first watch I think of when someone mentions chronograph is the Daytona!

That doesn't really surprise me by itself, the fact that the Panerai was mentioned in lieu of the Daytona is shocking. (Or the speedy for that matter)

I have a feeling that there was a certain fee to be mentioned in that magazine.

Many, many of those magazines are advertising dressed up as articles...

Rolex never pays to be included in a magazine unless it is direct advertising......

Doesn't surprise me a bit when you know who writes for them.

Nothing against Pam... but Daytona has been the most iconic chrono in the last 20-30 yrs... i think this article is rediculous.

I'd feature the Speedmaster before the Daytona if I were writing an article about essential chronographs, but it sounds like they left out the Omega, too.

That said, it gets kind of dull reading about the same products all the time.

I bet it was an article about chronograph dates.

Daytona most iconic chrono of all time? That is surely the Speedy, everyone knows the moonwatch.
