new to rolex
hello all,
I'm brand new to the world of rolex...and I've been wandering around these threads for the past few days or so trying to learn as much as I can about rolex...anyways I recently graduated and as a present my parents got me a Rolex Gmt Master II with the ceramic bezel all stainless model. I havent received it yet because the AD had to order it in and it should be here sometime in the coming week. After doing some research I still had some questions... Is the clasp on the GMT an updated clasp or is it an old one? There is a thread on the site that shows the downfall of the clasp on gmt and I'm kind of worried that it might happen to me. Also is this watch made entirely of the 904 L steel or just the case? and lastly...How do I clean and take care of this watch (I'll probably wear it everyday) Thanks in advance! |

Yes it will have the new type of clasp but there was nothing wrong with the old one thats been well proved for the last 30 odd years. And as for the 904L steel its more pure marketing hype than anything, as the 316L as whats used by the other 99% of the watch industry has very similar chemical composition. The main difference between 316L over 904L it has slightly more Molybdenum(Mo)approx 2% more, and approx 1-2% more Crome(Cr) 1%copper(Cu) and approx 10% more nickel and thats it.And all thats needed to keep any Rolex oyster in tip top condition is just plain old soap and water.Rolex watches don't need any sort of pampering, just a service every 5-7 years keep them clean will last for decades and beyond. When you get your watch give a full manual wind around 40 full crown turns clockwise then set time away you go.If worn for around 8 hours plus a day you should not have to re-wind unless it stops. But a manual wind now and then will do no harm whatsoever, you cannot over-wind your watch, a slipping clutch type mechanism prevents that enjoy your new watch.

Just graduated Dental school....will start practicing in a week or so and this was the present that I've wanted for a long long time haha
I've already got the next two Rolex's picked out I think in the near future depending on when Rolex updates them and if I actually make any money (loans are going to kill me) I want to look into the SS yachtmaster with plat bezel and the SS daytona...but again when I say near future I mean 10+ yrs hahahah |

Don't know why the last post didnt show up but I just graduated from dental school and will start practicing in about a week or so
I was at the AD trying on the watch and I've already picked out the next ones I'll be buying in the near future the ss yachtmaster with platinum bezel and the ss daytona and when i say near future i mean in about 10-15 yrs ! anyways When I chose the GMT I didnt really know about rolexes, my dad just told me to go and pick a watch that I liked and the GMT was the one, a few of my friends have submariners so I didnt want to get the same one as them and the Explorer which is really nice, the dealer talked me out of b/c she said it was going to be updated next year I thought the GMT was a perfect watch for a person my age (mid twenties) or am i totally way off base? |
