I just bought my 1st...good deal?

I just bought my first Rolex...it is a certified, pre-owned 1970 2-tone datejust in 14K yellow and stainless. I think I got a good deal, as i paid $1700 cash to a good friend of mine.

Did I get a good deal? The watch is in excellent condition. What is it worth, and if I decide to pawn it or sell it private party, what could i expect to get for it?

There are no papers and no box, but the local AD certified it as 100% authentic.

I'm excited...what do you think?

thanks,
ths78

I think that's a decent deal, usually the older Datejusts go around that price range. Pictures would be great!

Every part on the watch plays a role in the price of that watch. The bracelet a big part.

Good price on a great watch. The condition of the bracelet on this watch will make a significant difference in a resale. A watch this old could have a fair share of barcelet stretch, which won't make any difference in the wearing, but will affect resale. I hope you enjoy your watch-- it should out live all of us.

Either your lucky; or you just bought yourself an expensive "Fugazzi". I would not buy a Rolex with no papers even if the Pope told me it was real.

If grit and grime build up between the individual parts of the bracelet this can can act as a cutting compound and cause excessive wear, this wear gives the appearance of stretch in the bracelet, this is not the case, it is purely wear......keeping it clean with plain old soap and water can stop this wear to a large extent.....

As has been said, congrats on an iconic watch......and....PLEASE POST SOME PICTURES.....we love pictures here

Lastly before I forget.....A BIG WARM WELCOME TO TRF.....the bestest place on the internet thingy....

I wouldn't trust the pope on Rolex issues neither If you know where the watch came from or you had it checked out at a good AD or RSC , papers don't really matter that much on that type of watch and age .

Pictures never hurt. It would be an interesting watch to see. 1700 sounds like a good price for it.

Like a baby, both watches have been authenticated, papers matter more when it comes to selling, I never plan to sell......don't get me wrong I would prefer to have them but the watch is the thing you are really going to use.....and I do use all of mine.....after service you always have some documentary evidence anyway
