datejust model numbers
I am purchasing a 36MM datejust, white gold and steel, white face. I have read many things online about the various model numbers and I'm discussing with a dealer now what he has in stock. I wanted to know what I should be looking for model wise. I know some changes have been made in recent years and I wanted to know what I should be looking for model wise to ensure that I am not getting an older style. Your help is appreciated!

i have no problem negotiating and already have learned from this board to avoid torneau nyc for example if i have any hopes of getting something off. i'm not even sure what retail is for this watch though so i wouldn't know if they are starting at full retail to begin with.

The previous generation is the 16234, which stopped production c. 2003. This is a lighter watch on account of the use of hollow centre links, but this comes with the issue of stretch, far more so on the Jubilee bracelet. The clasps used are also the pressed metal-style, which, whilst perfectly functional, don't feel as nice (in my opinion) as the new ones. You can pick 16234s up for a great price though, so that may play a part in your decision. If I was choosing, I'd go for the 116234 on Jubilee - great looking dress watch, and you have the added feeling of refinement over the 16234 |
