New Daytona?
So, I'm thinking of doing something I previously thought was unthinkable - and selling my Panerais (a 232 SE and 288). They just don't get a lot of wrist time - 99% of that is reserved for the SD due to its versatility.
I'm looking for something versatile and relatively rare, and the Daytona seems to fit the bill. Have perused the web, and there seems to be quite a few of these going currently (BNIB, white and black dials). Prices vary a bit - haven't seen any at MSRP, but several have been close. Happy to go gray, but would obviously prefer AD (though that may be a pipe dream). Am hearing that they're now not as scarce as they once were - is this true? Are there actually ADs (in the US) with these on display nowadays? Oh, and I think I'm in love with the black-dialed one (V series, newest clasp). I fear I may miss the Panerais, but what good are watches that sit around in watch cases all day? (Rhetorical question). Thanks! |

Although there seems to be more members around here that own Daytonas, I have yet to run into one in the wild.
My suggestion to whoever is within range of buying one is to get it. It's not the most sought after Rolex for nothing. Good luck!

What is the difference if you buy a new one from a grey? Would it be a bad idea to do that ?

Daytona, black dial
I understand you. I'm on a waiting list to get one with black dial. That's my grail and I've said that this one will be my last one...

Without an AD stamp in the booklet the warranty won't apply. Plus there'll always be the tiniest doubt in your mind as to the watch's authenticity. That said I've bought most of my watched from gray market dealers with no regrets. But the AD route is always preferred if pricing's right.

I think that you are more likely to find one today rather than last year because of the economy... There just aren't that many luxury purchases as there used to be...

Tools - I suspect you're right. I've got a watch broker scanning the market for a new black-dialed one. He didn't seem to think he'd have much trouble locating one at or close to MSRP. Also have a lead on one in Germany for a reasonable price (going to a wedding there later in the week).
If anyone's got some good leads on a new one (not LNIB or gently worn), pls PM me! Thanks. |

You want a rare Daytona? Go with a Zenith movement MK I II or III dialed one

I have seen a few posts on TRF stating they are being see at a few ADs. You may want to look around.

I say go for it! If the Pam's aren't getting wrist time, sell them and get the Daytona. If you really miss them, you could always buy them back again.
Living in NYC, I see them all the time (about half on women and half on men). I must say, no matter who's wearing it they always look fantastic! Good luck with your search! |
