Traveling with multiple watches

I will be traveling to Germany next year and staying there for a year. I would really like to take both my Submariner and my Explorer II. My concern is getting through security. I do not want any trouble for having $11k-ish on me in watches. I would have a family member wear it for me, but none of their wrists are big enough. Have any of you traveled with two before?

My advice would be to pack one nicely in your carry on or your checked luggage (carry on, preferably). If your watches are insured, your risk is minimized.

To avoid scratches, I take any watch I'm wearing and pack it securely in my carry on for airport security, unless I'm wearing my cheapo Alpha (bought it specifically for traveling) and then I don't care.

I'd just been on vacation and packed a couple of things... my toothbrush, underwear and 6 watches (!)... (for me and my GF)

- Rolex no-date
- Rolex seadweller
- Breitling SOCH LE
- Breilting Colt Auto II
- Citizen diver
- Doxa sub 1200T

I use a quattro Watch Travel Storage Case from "The Watchboys"...

http://www.thewatchboys.com/travel-a...o-c-18_21.html

I had this in my carry-on bag and it was absolutely no problems with security etc. In Paris, my carry-on got searched througt by a sercurity officer, and he was interested in what was in the travel case. When I opened it up for him, he was shocked at first, then he got a huge smile on his face and all of a sudden he "needed to have a closer look"........
Impressed as he was he wished me a pleasant flight home 10 seconds later...

Let's see...by 'security' I'm going to assume you mean 'customs'. I THINK telling 'customs' officials your watches are fake will get them confiscated and you in trouble of some sort.

Would have to agree and instead of planned trip could end up in jail, but cannot see what the fuss is over carrying two watches, no matter what the brand if they are bought in country of origin.

Change the (carry on, preferably) to (carry on, absolutely). I never put anything of value in checked luggage.

You'll be fine, like others have already posted, wear one and take the others as carry on

I travel with 2-3 Rolex watches every time (more if my wife with me). I use the green Rolex felt cases and carry a sales copy showing the serial number of all my watches just in case they want to try to say I need to pay customs. If something happens make sure you keep the copies separate from the watches so you can have a proper report for your insurance.

Any thoughts on how you keep extra watches safe when on travel? Obviously doing the carry-on thing will keep it with you as you get through the airport, but what about your destination spot? Do you use the hotel safe or keep the watch locked in the car? I go on short weekend trips and sometimes like to have more than one watch, but I'm always just a little bit nervous about where to keep that second watch. I've often thought about having a lockbox somehow connected to my car in which I can keep an extra watch or two during road trips.

I always use the hotel safe for anything of value I have including my passport and cash. Much more safer and secure than a car which can be stolen.

On the subject of travel, I just picked this nifty little box, which'll be in my carry on luggage when I fly, for Ł15 delivered on eBay.

I'm taking one Rolex plus my Black Monster, although I do have a safe in the apartment I'll be staying in.

I would travel with copies of the original sales receipts and warranty cards to show that these were purchased in the US. To play it even safer, at the US airport, go to the customs booth and declare these before you leave the country. This way you will not have any problems re-entering. I've done this many times with expensive photo equipment. Under no circumstance, would I put a watch or any valuables into a checked bag. I've even had two pairs of Dockers stolen out of a checked bag going into Eastern Europe (before the fall of Communism)

DON'T claim they are fake if asked as this would be surefire way of getting your watches confiscated.

I don't know if I would go through the trouble of reporting to customs before leaving, especially for just two watches. But I do like the advise about carrying copies of your receipts with the serial numbers to avoid any potential problems from custom upon reentry to the US.

Definitely keep your watches with you at all times i.e. carry on rather than luggage as most are recommending. Luggage gets x-rayed and and contents of the luggage are stolen more often than you might think. Furthermore, luggage is not always treated as gently as we would would like and you could risk damage to the watch if not packed well.

Every time I travel to Europe I carry with me at least 5 Rolex watches. I have 1 on my hand and the others in my carry on in a watch case like those shown above.I have never in 20 years been asked by customs in Europe or the USA about a watch.

Set the EII 24h hand to home time. Great function while travelling.

I occasionally travel with 2 Rolexes on international trips - usually my GMT II and my Explorer 1. I sometimes bring a Casio G Shock along also, for wear while exercising and for it's alarm functions.

I usually wear one and carry the others in my computer bag, which stays with me as a carry-on. No issues ever.

Bring them and enjoy them !

I have traveled internationally dozens of times, bringing multiple watches. Never an issue. I am really surprised that people are so paranoid about this.

I prefer to travel with just one personally, but if you take more, use your carry-on for sure!
