Got the call..... Pulled the trigger

Having been on numerous lists up and down the country, unexpectedly today out of the blue I got a call from Goldsmiths telling me that they had available if I wanted it a white dial SS Daytona at list!!!

I have been wanting a black daytona for many years, so when I was offered the white, my first question was could the dial be changed, under the complimentary dial exchange service that Goldsmiths offer! However I was informed that due to extra work involved on the Daytona there was a charge of £150, this put me off seeing as though the list price had crept up from circa £4000k to today's price of £6310!

I was fortunate enough to be available to view the watch today and once I had arrived at the AD, I have to say was very taken with the white dial... Hope I have made the right choice, I think I have as my other watch is a GMT IIc which of course is a black dial. I uhhm'd and aghhh'd a bit mainly due to the price but based on the fact I managed to get hold of one, was available to collect and managed to get best of all "3 years interest free" decided to pull the trigger.

Have to say very impressed with the look and feel, apparently according to the dealer, demand in the UK is still there, a lot I think down to comparable price for visitor/tourist prices! Also with the VAT due to rise, felt like I had to get involved.

I just wondered have any pf you out there on lists in the UK, found they have become more available! Either way, well chuffed got my hands on one, thoughts please.

Nice one...a classic watch, and as you said this are still hard to come by at AD's so a wise choice to pick one up when you had the chance. My one says hi...

Congratulations Flyer, great piece!

The SS Daytona never had great appeal to me until I just happened to be browsing in an AD and he told me he had one in stock and that he would make me a real deal on it and a bracelet my wife had been looking at. So, I slipped it on (first time I'd ever even tried one on) and liked it better than I thought I would. So, I got it and have grown to appreciate the white faced SS Daytona more and more. Can't imagine why I didn't like it in the first place, great watch!!

Show us some pics of your new catch, and wear it in good health!!

congrats on the Daytona! You must be very pleased with that.

I'm on a waiting list with my UK and Switzerland AD since late Feb this year. One should be arriving next month and the other one should be arriving by end of the year - and they initially quoted me about 12 months wait... So yes, the SS Daytona has became easier to get.

It's high but hold it long enough and you'll be ok if you ever needed to sell it.

impending VAT rise in uk and list prices only go one way so good to buy now than later.

The only way you're going to get any discount on that model from an AD is to combine it with somthing else they sell. But, for the most part, on a new model from an AD, you're gonna pay full MSRP on a white face SS Daytona.

the OP mentioned that they were charging him £150 for the change...

I know EJ offers a free dial change within the first 3 months for DJ/DD models, including the II variants. Not too sure about the sports models though.

Yeah Goldsmiths offer a free dial change service, they get charged by Rolex but cover it for their customers, apart from of course on the Daytona...... which they said would be £150, so as I believe in fate, I thought gonna stay with the white dial.... Here are some pics sorry not so great quality but hey it's late..

thanks for the pix. Didn't realise that the GMTIIC looked bigger than the Daytona - probably due to the ceramic bezel and black dial combo.

Snap! I have a GMTIIc and wanted a white dial SS Daytona as a contrast. I waited 15 months on a list also at a branch of Goldsmiths. However it came in as a black dial but they did change it for a white one but at no extra charge at all. You did do better on the interest free as I only got two years whereas you got three (which I thought was for online sales, i.e. not on Rolex, only).

Congrats.
