So I walk into the store...
...and then what?
I have decided I will get the GMT IIc and it will be this week. My plan is to walk into the store with $1k cash and offer it as a deposit, then turn around, go to the bank and get a certified check for the remainder. Basically, I want this to be as easy as a cash transaction for the store in the interest of cutting a deal with them. How much can I get away with? What is the MSRP of the watch? How much lower do you think a store would be willing to let go of it if it is a cash transaction? I don't know how much the store has the watch going for yet since I have yet to visit it, but I know they have it in stock. Ideas? This is my biggest purchase and want to know what the subject matter experts (you guys! ) think. Thanks. |

Puffy, thanks!
Seeing as this is my first high-end watch, I wanted to get a brand new one from the store and build a relationship with them. Basically, setting myself up for future purchases. |

Get in touch with DAVIDSW (have a surf through the "buyers/sellers who's who" first)

you might save a bit doing cash because they wont have to pay the merchant fee's for using a card, but in the grand scheme of things it probabaly wont save you that much. You will still have to pay sales tax. I would just ask them what their best cash price would be and see what they say. If its too high consider contacting someone here like DavidSW. You will probably save 500 or more and still get your name on the warrenty card.

Wow...Cleaveland sounds like the place. Not sure if the GmtcII is plentiful tho.
I doubt you will get much off if anything on a watch that is hard to keep in stock AND in SS. |

Welcome to TRF. The MSRP for a GMT IIC is $7,000. I would suggest going to the Sales section on this site and contact David SW to see what he has currently. You should be able to get either a BNIB (brand new in box) or a mint GMT for between 15 and 20% off of MSRP. You probably won't be able to get that at an AD for a curent sport Rolex in steel. You might get that discount (or more) from an AD if you were buying either gold or a Date Just.

I can appreciate your wanting to establish a relationship with an AD, and the buying experience at certain AD's can be quite enjoyable. BUT, to keep real money in your pocket maybe consider, as suggested above, a little PM to DavidSW or Oscar (Bodybump). Oscar just secured me a sweet BNIB Datejust and I'm delighted. No way AD gets close to the price I paid.

Plenty in stock at all the AD's...well, I've only been in 3 of them over the last two months but they all had them in stock. My local AD actually has all sport models in stock, including 3 old style SS subs, 2 old style SS LV's, and 2 TT old style blue subs. Sales are still really slow.

I have been offered 10% off on these numerous times without even asking up in NJ...during good times. If he wont budge on the price then it sounds to me like he isnt too interested in building a relationship with you. I would say 10%. He should at least try to work with you.

Clearly I go to the wrong ADs in the wrong cities. nothing but MSRP. Even when I ask.
Thankfully, I have TRF! |

Curious? What does building a relationship really mean? If you have to buy a lot to get discounts in the future, why not just get them right from the start here on TRF?
I bought my first Rolex at an AD for the experience and to commemorate a great trip to the Virgin Islands; however, future purchases will be made right here on TRF so I can have more money for more trips!

A merchant pays around 2% to the bank if you use a credit card so they may offer a cash discount. I think it's more likely if you're dealing with the owner in a smaller store though - in a big chain they may not care how you pay.

So, after much debating in my head and after reading your posts... I decided to give David a call.
Needless to say, he gave me a fantastic deal and am just waiting for him to send me the pertinent documentation in order to pay him and receive it. Who would've thought that I'd be ordering my watch today? Much less, not from a brick and mortar store? Thanks. I have definitely joined a community of enablers and I love it. :) |

Sose, I'm glad you have found your watch at a price you are comfortable with and will have it shortly. I plan on buying future purchases here from one of the sellers on TRF. But for future considerations you should be able to get 10% - 20% off from an AD who only sells retail!!!

DavidSW is the best!! I bought my GMTIIc from him last year. Please post pics and congrats! I'm from NoVA, too. Which AD were you about to do business with?
