New EXP II 2011 Availabilty question..
As we all know - Rolex all but introduced the new version of the EXP II - Maxi dial - large orange GMT hand etc....my question is that since Rolex basically had that model ready to go at Basel - when they (if they and we thinks they will) introduce it at Basel next spring - will they have inventory of that model ready to ship hoping that we will not have to wait until this time next year ? or are thoughts that it will not be in stores until the usual post-Basel lag time...?

usually... when rolex introduces a new watch at basel, the watch will be available at authorized 6 - 10 months later depends where you are. no one really knows what rolex is going to do. what you want to do is go down to your ad and tell him(her) to put your name on the waitlist when it becomes available.

I'll bet it is going to be some watch when Rolex finally rolls it out to the ADs.

Seems to me that the new Ceramic Subs hit earlier than new releases have in the past, I hope its a new trend with Rolex!

we cannot really know if the new exp2 is 'ready to go'...
as far as we know, the ss sub ceramic was 'ready to go' at last year's basal. |

Baselworld March.April-ish Offical worldwide release - August/Sept/Oct (depending on where you are). as suggested, the release of Sub-C was brought forward to mid-late July this year - hope it will be the same next year or even earlier |

I'm actually curious if the Exp II will arrive in the exact same form it was in the video. Specifically, it's not a maxi-case - which seems unexpected given that every new model of this size seems to have received the maxi-case.

It will be interesting to see when it eventually surfaces. If i remember rightly i think it showed it still only had the twinlock crown unfortunately.

I'm hoping that the production version has the GMT IIC case and Triplock crown. I'll be disappointed if it uses a Twinlock, unless it's a beefed up version like the Milgauss. The current Exp II uses the same case and crown as the old GMT II, so it would be logical for the new Exp II to use the same case and crown as the GMT IIC. Then again, Rolex may choose to further differentiate the two models...

Well the GMT does not need a Triplock either, but imho it's nicer to look at & use and is proportional to the supercase. It will be interesting to see if Rolex use the GMT IIC case/bracelet/clasp - minus PCLs - and Triplock, or give the Exp II a more distinct look of its own. Perhaps a unique 'semi-supercase' (you heard it here first!) and a larger Twinlock as used on the Milgauss. Either way, I think it will be a winner and appeal to those who find the GMT IIC a little too dressy &/or don't like ceramic inserts.

Patrick, sad but true of way too many threads.
What we do know is Rolex apparently planned to announce the new ExpyII at Basel, but decided to hold off. Production may have already been underway at that time or started shortly there after. Interestingly enough, I had this very conversation with an AD last week when they told me that they do not have any Expy II's and what was more unusual, had not received one in any of their shipments in quite some time. Now I know many AD's have them, but this AD does volume and has fast turn-over. Production on the current model may have well stopped and there may be a drought before we know it as we await the arrival of the new version -- Perhaps another wild guess |

I've read in the past that rolex does not consider the explorer to be a dive watch, hence no trip lock.
And wouldn't it be nice if the new II was ready for sale by Basel 2011? DW |

Is it me or on the "spy photo" does the bracelet look different than a regular oyster? Also, that case doesn't look like current 40mm, nor the new maxi case squared lugs.

It does look good I must say.
Reason I got mine though was because I feared Rolex might 'enhance' it
