Rolex Submariner in Full Black???

This is my first post in this fourm and I am seeking your support. I got a deal on a Full Black Submariner. I am not sure if authentic Submariner is coming in full black. Please advise.

They don't come in all black, but that could've been done as an extra by a 3rd party.

Where did you buy it and how much did you pay would be the first things I would ask.

Hope you like the watch.

Afraid you may not get too much "support" here for doing this to a Rolex. Justin seems to like it, but many folks here seem to favor the style / beauty of how Rolex intended the watches to look - in stainless steel, with both brushed and polished surfaces.

At Tony says, the watch may be authentic, but some third party applied the coating.

If you got a good deal, good for you. The watch may not have tremendous resale value...as the black coating will eventually get dinged (show steel underneath) / wears off.

It's definitely a special-interest watch.

If you are worried about the authenticity, take it to an Authorized Dealer who can examine it.

It won't have come from the factory like that, and you won't be able to get it serviced at an authorised Rolex service centre. But if you like it, that's all that matters - congratulations

......and I find it perplexing that Rolex won't work on a PVD'd watch, yet are quite happy with the endless diamond encrusted ghastly blinged-up crud that seems to be so associated with the brand these days

Only if it was original from the factory. Watches with aftermarket dials, bezels etc. simply won't be serviced unless replaced, at the customer's cost, with the correct parts intended for the watch.

Good to know you like the watch. I did say many folks favor traditional / official finishes...but others will like PVD.

I don't find it surprising at all that Rolex wont work on a PVDd watch.

Why would Rolex take on the responsibility of working on the finish when when they had nothing to do with the application of the process. They may also have reason to doubt what else may be non-standard on the watch.

I am with you though... I am NOT a fan of diamond encrusted Rolexes, but if they were put on by Rolex, they should know how to service them...and feel ok about getting them back to original condition.

I do think RUSA is a bit stuffy on some issues though. Oh well. My watches - with the exception of a bezel insert on my GMTII - are the ones that belong on the original watch.

I, for one, love PVD treatment. In fact, I am looking for an Explorer I for that purpose. I think it will look great.

I'm a purist, and don't care too much for the coating myself, but as long as you like it, it's all good.

Why buy a Rolex if you don't know if it's real?

It's obvious that some of you likes it and some not. I like it but I was thinking that it may not catch the eyes, while the SS and the two tones one will catch the eyes from a mile distance.

Shomak- First establish that it is authentic Rolex. Then decide if that's what YOU like. It is/will be your watch at the end of the day so you might as well be happy. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks.

I think it looks cool, now I would NEVER do it to one of mine or buy one like that, but I think it's neat. And I guess if you plan on keeping it then go for it! I just imagine a watch like that would have quite a limited resale audience.

I don't mind the PVD-look watches, although if they were scratched up, with the stainless steel showing underneath, that would be a different story.

I don't understand why Rolex would refuse to service a watch that underwent a PVD treatment. It is not as if the movement had been tampered with. Heck, if I decided to paint my Rolex with pink fingernail polish, would Rolex refuse to service the movement?

I like the two tone look to the bracelet. Is it mixed glossy and matte black?

If it is matte black, does it scratch or get dirty easily?

Reminds me of the Matte Black car paint jobs. Certainly looks like a Project X. However the Project X site doesn't show a blacked out Sub. They have GMT II, Milgauss, Daytona and Explorer II.

I think it is because Rolex will not be responsible for scratching it, that and it's Rolex policy to not work on any watch unless it is as it was sold.

I would be interested in seeing a photo of the actual watch being discussed...

Many of the PVD offerings are twice the cost of a regular Rolex and the companies have their own unique branding, and so, for that price I would want to look it over very closely.........
