Rolex gold bracelets to polish or not to polish?

I have a Rolex GMT II with steel and rolesor bracelet.

I have had it for about 9 months and the supplier told me that the gold would scratch in time but he could polish the scratches out when they became unsightly.

Well there is some sign of wear but surely polishing will in time ruin the gold which is obviously very soft.

Any advice greatly appreciated.
