My datejust perpetual 18k/WG/SS Roman Nr

Hi! Just bought from ebay this vintage rolex watch. Its a Datejust Perpetual 18k WG/SS Roman Numeral. These are the relevant information about the watch; REF 1601, Cal 1570 and Serial No. 2090365. Despite its age (1969) it looks so pristinely new. Just had it authenticated in a Rolex Center and passed all the tests including water resistance. The pics were taken in the Rolex Center. Including the shipment cost and custom duties, I shelled out $1800 all in all. Do you think I got a fair deal?

That is a fair price for a 1601 TT DJ, especially if everything is Rolex, no aftermarket bracelet, etc. I have a stainless 1601 in ecellant condition and paid $1400 for it, so you did pretty good! If you watch Ebay pretty regular, you'll see the prices vintage 1601's go for, you're in the ballpark, hope you enjoy it!

very nice ! Great dial. Don't see too many of them in the pie pan version.

Did Rolex make a TT with white gold and stainless steel bracelet? I thought the white gold refer to the bezel and the rest of the watch and the bracelet is stainless steel.

The white gold refers to the bezel which is fluted! The bracelet is stainless steel. Being new with Rolex, is this the normal design for this model?

Hector, I will say it again..that is a real beauty ! Yes, 1601 is all stainless with a fluted WG bezel. I believe some dials had WG hours markers as well.

1601/3 is a tu tone SS and YG model.

Enjoy that vintage DJ.

Best, Greg

Thanks for the compliment Greg!!! A lot of my friends here are one with you in appreciating it. And I intend to have this watch for keeps!

One thing, how do I know if the bracelet is original or not?

That's a beauty!!! I love the white dial and Roman Numerals. Can't help you on the bracelet. It could have been replaced at some point during a service. Don't know if it's original, but if it were an aftermarket, the AD should have told you.

Hector, i think it is definitely a keeper. The rolled/light jubilee is definitely period correct. Some will have a date stamp on the clasp. It should be on the back side of the clasp peice that has the Rolex logo, etc on it. If it is there, you can see if it matches the ~1969 or so production date of the watch.

Thx Greg
