25+ Year Durability
I am in the process of selecting a new watch and am curious about long-term looks and durability. I know Rolex is the right brand but getting the right model is important. The SS Sub-Date is the ultimate in durability and timeless style but I'm not entirely convinced it is the best choice. It does not feel as special as two-tone models and there are a lot of cool back dialed divers I could add soon after.
I've kicked around the idea of several two-tone models including; Thunderbird, Datejust as well as the two-tone sport models. I'm not sure if tt is the right choice but most importantly I'm worried about how a tt model will look after 25+years of regular usage. Any experience is greatly appreciated. thanks all, Joseph |

The world standard, and probably the most copied watch/bracelet combination is the TT Rolex Datejust.........
It came out in 1945 and is still in demand... I would say that this constitutes durability............

TT will show wear and depreciate from MSRP faster in the short term..Who knows in the long term!?!?!
However, every service it can be made new again with a refinish easily...... TT's are a great choice IMO,many will not agree...(aparently SS is the new age..) Good luck on your choice Joseph, and go with what you like first and most is my advice~

Hi Joseph,
My TT from 1971. Still keeps good time (+ 8 seconds/day).

I just had that conversation with my wife. I said that I love the fact that my watches will be in someones collection long after I am gone. As long as they land with a WIS they will be cared for and serviced for many, many years to come. I will be gone but my watches will be proudly worn and displayed in someone's collection. I like that.

Welcome and congrats on your decision Joseph! You really can't go wrong with the options you mentioned. TT is an exceptionally beautiful watch, not my thing (I am just not much of a yellow Gold guy) but certainly a classic and I have no doubt will last you the 25 years you are looking for EASILY. My personal choice of your list is the DateJust, what a timeless classic.
Whatever you decide and purchase don't forget to post pics!!!!!! |

TT is a great choice. I've got several Rolex, but my favorite is still my father's TT TOG from the 50's. And, that watch still looks great.
SS is the favorite on this forum, but I still see 4 to 1 TT over SS in use. |
