Would you buy a Day/Date in Stainless Steel?
Don't get excited.... it would cost you a small fortune if you can find one for sale.
While looking for something else the other day, I stumbled upon some information about Day/Dates that I had not seen previously, including this: "the range’s rarest watches of all are still those of steel made around the mid 1950s" Source: http://www.dellaroccagioielli.it/b_1...of+watches.php More information and a picture from: http://www.newturfers.com/bin/mwf/to....pl?pid=338280 Ref. 6511/4, made on July 19, 1955. Only 6 examples. This watch was produced in only six examples in stainless steel because a marketing test with different metals showed that there was a considerable potential demand for pieces in gold. Rolex therefore stopped production of the steel watches, producing this reference only in precious metals. This strategy proved successful, for even today this is the most popular high-quality watch in the world.

Gotta say that part of the allure of the DD for me is the exclusivity in gold or plat.....so my answer is no.

I would because I love the president Bracelet. I have one in YG and I am seriously thinking about getting a WG or Platty DD. If it was available is SS I would have one already.

Sure I would. If it were available in steel I definitely would have chosen that instead. I just like the essential design of the dial. If Omega ever comes to its senses and puts a similar dial on an Aqua Terra they'll make a ton o' dough.

I should have put that I probably would not, since I love yellow gold.
Maybe two tone??

I wouldn't mind a DD in stainless steel. I love the presidents bracelet. The 170gr. weight (gold) is heavier than I would like to wear everyday...
But yes, a big part of the allure of the DD is the fact that it is made of precious metals. |

This is a silly question. If DD models had been made in steel or gold since the beginning it wouldn't mean anything to anyone. It's like asking if you would buy a SS GMTII...we can buy those in YG or SS so what's the real question here.

Don't know really but it would be worth a look. It would have to be a SS DD2 though for me.

I'd probably take the TT version for DD but no less than that (SS)

In theory yes, but probably not at the price Rolex would charge for a steel DD.

That's the first DD I've seen in Italian by the way, though I understand they're available in quite a few languages. Nice watch.

I don't mind an SS DD, but it has to have bark!
