Going to RSC in NYC

Hi folks, going to the RSC in New York this week. I was initially going to have a watch authenticated (AD's in Boston can't do this...!!), but I probably will also have it serviced now. Do you recommend I bring the original paperwork, or is the watch by itself fine? Any other things you think I should consider? Thanks

First why do you want to have your watch authenticated did you buy it from a unreliable source. If you already own and paid for the watch its a bit late now to have it authenticated. If you have it serviced then just the watch will do don't need the paperwork unless its warranty work in the first two years since new. And when they service it you will have Rolex service papers when your watch is returned to you if your watch is a authentic Rolex.

Thanks - the authentication is a formality tbh. I'm 99.9% sure it is authentic, but as I spent a lot of money I just wanted to have that step in there for my own peace of mind. Anyway as per your point that won't be necessary with the service. The watch is 15 years old and although it came with original papers, boxes etc no records of a service, hence I want to have one done.

Always wise when a watch is over 5/7 years with no service history to have it serviced. Now some ADs and RSC charge $75 plus for authentication, which IMHO is daylight robbery. If you go to direct to a RSC and ask for a service estimate they will open the case, then give you a price. When they give you a price you will know your watch is genuine and you save $75 plus.

If it isn't authentic, would NY RSC confiscate the watch on the spot?

Agreed. NYC charges 150 for the authentication alone... I'm concerned what they will quote for the service tbh...

A full service, including case tube and crown, on my GMT Master II was quoted at $550 by Dallas RSC a couple of months ago. It ended up being $165 more because I wanted the glass changed also.

Rolex rotors (at least the two I owned) are pretty much silent. Wind the watch on your wrist and see if you hear it. If not, that is a good start :) Caveat: I am no expert so those with tons more experience please correct me.

You do not need any paperwork........

Unless it is warranty work, taking any paper into an RSC is irrelevant..........All they are concerned with is the watch..

If it's in good condition and has been taken care of, it will likely be very close to that. Costs go up with older models in need of broken parts replacement from neglect.......

It certainly looks like it has been taken care of. Only thing is that you can hear the rotor quite well (when you listen for it). Anyway, time will tell...

The 4030 is based on the Zenith El Primero movement and has a noisy rotor.. It's a pretty well known characteristic of this movement .........
