Interesting... I was amazed by "machine specially modified for swiss timepieces!" It looked like hangers! ;-)

I wonder how long that coating really lasts.. They say for a while, but.. hmm.

Thanks for sharing that video, interesting.

I have been looking at getting a PVD'ed Rolex (either Sub or Sea Dweller) or even buying a used watch and sending it out myself to get the DLC.

Thing is... The jewelers PVD'ing these watches each say that their process/coating is somehow unique and better. For instance, a few people told me that it takes a month for the DLC to bake on (which I doubt is true-- this is just a plating process) and because it has to be baked on, their DLC is "better" than the other coating materials used by others.

Out of curiosity, I went to the Diamond District to see if any dealers had them and a few did. It was the first time I got to see one up close and hold it in my hands... Damn cool. But again, all different sorts of info (and prices) even though I bet they all use the same guy to get the watches coated.

This interesting video has been posted before. If they know as much about PVD as they do about 'pressure' testing then I PASS.

I have seen this done for a while now and am curious if anyone knows what the cost is? From the video it doesn't look like this is an inexpensive process. I think the watches look great, but it would be difficult for me to have that done to a Rolex.

That was very interesting. I didn't all that went into the process.

Interesting video even if I'm not a fan of black coating.

Just remember that Rolex sent a notification to its ADs that any PVD coated watch is automatically void of any factory warranty.
