Gold 3 hand dress watch recommendations
I'm looking for a relatively simple dress watch and I'd appreciate some advice.
I already have a Datejust which I wear on a leather strap but I'm looking for something less 'bling' and it has to be on a strap. That said I want the watch to be the epitome of fine watch making. This will be the most I've ever spent on a watch and I don't expect to purchase any more for the next few years. As a guide I've been looking at the Glashutte Original PanoLunar, the Vacheron Patrimony Traditionnelle and the Patek Calatrava models. The A. Lange & Soehne 1815 and Saxonia models are hot favourites at the moment. So basically I'm looking for a simple 36mm to 40mm rose gold cased simple 3 hand watch. The Patek and VC are on the absolute outside edge of my budget but I might be prepared to spend the cash on the justification that I'll never need to buy another watch again. This price bracket opens up a load of options and the JLC models look quite tempting. The Dornblueth & Sohn models are also on the shortlist. Please help me out!

You want me to suggest a watch that might be the last one you will ever buy.
Be serious. I can't even pronounce some of those brands.

Well, you've been looking at some uber-fabulous timepieces, so it sounds like you will end up with a fantastic one no matter which it is. In the Vacheron line, I really love the American 1921 (must have something to do with my love of cars!) & Cartier's new line with in-house movement is definitely worth a look. Good luck & post when you find "the one!"

I would give the Dornbleuth & Sohne models a closer look. You mentioned that they are on the short list for you, so you may be way ahead of me here. I recently wrote the company and received a wonderful marketing kit from them. The more I learn about the company, the more impressed I am with their horological capabilities.
Sadly, I can't seem to find any pre-owned pieces readily available. Looks like you would have to purchase direct from the company. Let us know what you decide! |

Might look at Zenith. They have some classy RG dress watches.

I'm aware that the thread is useless without pics so here you go...
Here was the shortlist The Lange The VC Patrimony There are no Lange dealers in my neck of the woods so I couldn't try one of these on. I did try the VC on however and it was stunning. Would have blown the budget though. Scouting the net for grey dealers I did come across this pre-owned beauty...... I couldn't resist it. I'm picking it up in two weeks time.

The lange is my favorite. However, on a more budget scale, the iwc portofinos are treat dress watches imho.
Also, the Piaget extremely thin watch (suddenly I can't remember the name) is very classy too! |
