I pulled the trigger on the TT GMT root beer

Hi everyone,

I have learnt so much from this forum.

So last night, after much irrational thinking (wifey is still cooling off).

I bought a GMT Master II, root beer dial, D serial.

eerrr, I gonna ask a stupid question and probably get blasted for it.

How do I post pics? Have never done it before, please teach.

Congrats! The "Root Beer" is gaining a lot of attention by some collectors. I believe the reference has been discontinued. Nice score

Fellas,

Thank you for your kind words. Hunh!! Did someone say that the Root Beer is discontinued? Wow, that would make this purchase a "JIT, just in time" acquisition.

Mike, have you heard that this model is now discontinued? Do tell!!

Another pic for you. But I am no pro, just using a Canon Ixus 4.0 MP camera.

Please pardon the lousy quality.

One of the main reasons for the Root beer selection was that I thought the gold would not be "too loud" as the contrast is not too strong.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

Hope you enjoy the pics, will post more when time permits. Probably under the Gallery might be more appropriate.

Nice looking GMT!! Just got a GMt (Black/Red) myself. I think the GMT is the most versatile Tool watch that Rolex makes.

Congrats on the JIT TT Rootbeer GMT!

Has your wife cooled down yet? I guess once the bug bites you hard, you may have to hide some of your future acquistions

Very nice acquisition, SC. Welcome to the 4 hand club. My all black GMT was the only watch I took with me on my recent trip Down Under. Made it very easy to keep track of the time at home and locally. Best watch going IMHO.

Not a big fan of two tone watches, but on your two tone, that root beer color kinda meshes with the gold part of your watch; enjoy your watch!

Thanks to everyone for your kind words.

I am sort of glad that it is now a discontinued model. This way I can now say, "Well, you can't buy them new anymore, it's been discontinued!"

Sorry for the late reply, as I don't log on frequently.

Roadcarver, yes the missus has cooled down. But looks like her birthday present is gonna cost me some !!

Ofelas, thank you for your kind remarks. I quite agree. With Asian coloured skin, the gold sort of blends with the "root beer".

I am still admiring it now that it is on my wrist. Wonder when I will not be so conscious about it. It is definitely tougher than my Jaeger LC Master Moon.

I have never seen one in person either on a wrist or at an AD, so I think you have yourself a potentially valuable collector's item in the long term future.

Nice GMT-Master II Santa!

I inquired about a "root beer" GMT last week at an AD and was told that I'd never be able to find one.

Good lookin' watch!!!

Not new (but perhaps one that has lain in a shop for awhile unsold), but you can still find them around. I just bought mine a few weeks ago, but it is 1995-vintage. You can't tell that it isn't new, though.

These are becoming collector watches, since they have stopped production of them. I think they are beautiful and unique - you can have a GMT-Master II with something a little different from the standard black dial and Pepsi or black/red bezel.

Yes, I agree with Allan.

They seem quite "rare", can't seem to see them around often as the other models.

I am quite fortunate that this is a D-series, probably on their last run.

Got a good discount as well, I played on the "not so sellable" card. But I guess the sales rep sort of knew I was a collector, I leaked a little too much details to be known as a "casual watch owner",

Anyway, I am happy with the watch and the price was very reasonable.

Nice!

My favorite watch - period. In the early 70's I bought a slightly battered GMT that was on a leather strap. I had it refurbished by a local watchmaker (who I still use) and he made the watch perfect (new bezel, new insert, cleaned and polished the case, built an expanding riveted bracelet for it), but my wife wasn't too excited about the Pepsi bezel. So -- for one of my birthdays, she took it to an AD and had him convert it to a two-tone. In those days an AD would do that - the AD even returned my all of my parts! Imagine. At any rate, I have worn my TT GMT almost continually since then. I love that watch and if I had only one Rolex (god forbid), my TT GMT would be the one.
