Bell & Ross

Respected or just a 'wannabee' brand?

I have a thing about military watches and have been thinking about getting a BR03

Goes both ways.
I have owned a couple and they are fun.

Ends there for me.

Save your funds for that Daytona!

If you're aiming for the Daytona I would go for that - you can't go wrong!

It's a great brand, and I think they have bold designs. But I don't think they're in the same league like the other big guns... But that's my opinion... :)

I think the clean and very readable aviation instrument design is distinctive and very appealing.

The only thing that stopped me from buying one is that I'm not into the wrist-clock fad of oversized watches.

Respected, however, they seem to lose quite a bit of value after purchase. If you're really looking for one, try to pick it up used.

They're a respeced brand, but I think that line is very gimmicky. The "phantom" is just silly IMHO. When you need to know the time, you need to know the time. If you're worried about snipers and not having glare off your watch, or other gear, you cover it up, under a sleeve or flap, just like all your other reflective gear.
As a former military member, I get a little riled up by these companies dubious claims to "phantom" military ties. If anyone in the Active Duty military has one of these watches, it's probably an enlisted guy with a faux model, and it's not going with him to the sand box.
If you like "military style" watches, why not get one with some real military history, even if the link was over 50 years ago. I'm thinking about a gold IWC pilot again myself, I almost pulled the trigger on a steal of a platinum one a couple years ago. The one that got away...

I'm with you Brian. Interesting brand, makes a lot of reference to being mil spec (any one can stamp this on their product). I ain't seen too many being worn by soldiers. So not much street cred on this front (MO). Not to say that I will not own one that grabs my fancy at some point. Cheers J.
