Is it possible to get the Daytona without a waiting list?
I mean if u have the money and are willing to pay MSRP and maybe a little bit more would it be possible to get the White Daytona at your local AD? I called mine and they said they only have the white and gold one but the pure white they said i'd have to pay MSRP for it but i dont think they even have it in stock... i called another AD and they said theres no chance in even getting it because theres a huge waiting list for it... I'm talking locally... like in your area only.

I went to three ADs today. Two laughed in my face basically when I asked about a SS Daytona. The third placed me on his list and said he would call me if he could get me one. Whatever. Wait and see.
My AD which I have bought two Rolex from also said he will get me one in October. If I don't...he gets no more of my business. Not because he did not get me one, but because he got my hopes up and BS-ed me. |

No, I did not have to put anything down on it other than the near 10 grand I have already given him for two watches....I mean "timepieces."

Hey Vic!
Not sure if this helps but Ashley Fine Jewelery in Hamilton doesn't have a waiting list and sell them on a first come first served basis. I don't know how many they get a year but I'm sure it isn't many.

Patients is a virtue.
My AD promised that I would have my Daytona before my wedding and he came through. It seems as though most AD’s get at least one SS Daytona every other month. I’m sure many AD’s have a long wait list and certain clients they prefer to give the Daytona to, but that well will run dry after so long. My advice is to stay in close contact with the AD, and let them know on at least a bi-monthly basis that you are still waiting and looking forward to getting the watch. At some point you will get him/her on the right day when they recently got one in stock and likely do not have another person high on their list to sell the Daytona to. I am convinced that if you have a somewhat strong relationship with an AD, you really shouldn’t have to wait more than a year to two years tops! When you get it though it is certainly worth it

Depends on whether you know the AD. I know mine and have had three of the SS Daytonas.

And then you woke up! Nice watch, congrats. Now, I'm not a big daytona fan, and probably will only buy a vintage one for the collection some day, but I once went into our one and only AD and asked if they had one in stock just out of curiosity. He said yes (black dial) in the safe. He told me that I could have it at list if I bought another Rolex as well or else it was A$15,000. I responded, "Why, isn't A$10,000 enough for you?" I also told him that I planning on buying two Rolexes in the near future AND NOT from him. I did get the two (Blue TT Sub and Explorer I), and yes NOT from him! AD's will tell you a lot of , so be paitent look around, and you WILL succeed. John. |

I was wondering about the SS Daytona and remembered that I had viewed 2 on Alan Furman's Internet site a while back. They still have them but they are priced over retail. Oddly though, they also have several two tones and all gold models and they are discounted! What is the logic of all this I wonder? Why doesn't Rolex just increase production a bit so that people don't have to wait so long for the SS version?

I just cannot get into the hype on these watches. They're beautiful as are all Rollies IMO, but the lack of date, no second hand and busy dial put me off a bit. That said, I can feel that hard to get, exclusivity issue tugging at me. Does anyone own one of these and absolutely NEVER use the functions for which it was intended? I could picture sending mine in for service and the RSC having to unfreeze the timing mechanism!

To me, the Daytona has a lot of charisma, but I like my other three Rollies just as well for what they offer.

[QUOTE=Prince;217513]Well David, I don't use mine very often, but when I do, I'm glad I have the features. Actually, I just like the way the watch looks more than anything else. Plus, I live about 45 miles north of Daytona, and go down all the time for Bike Week/BiketoberFest.
[I love your area Allan! We used to go to Daytona Beach every year for many years. Stay at a place on the beach called Perry's. Caters to us "older crowd". We were there for bike week three years ago and ran back up to St. Augustine for a bit of shopping and eating. Walked around the Flagler campus, beautiful! Been going to Northport for the past couple years. |

I just use it even without any use to keep it moving regularly as I've heard it should not be kept idle for ever as that might be harmful for its precision. I just purchased a Daytona as I feel more satisfied with the look n feel of complicated mechanical watch.

I found the SS chase better than the owning, and for me, this is actually more beautiful, and if it was a standard configuration I'd have it in a heartbeat...TT with PN dial...Pic from TZ:
