TRF International MnG
So has there ever been an National / International TRF Meet n Greet - more like a convention? Just wondering if we could put one together, put on a watch and pen show at some large city (like LA, Chicago, NYC) with lots to do.... just thinking out loud.
I belong to another forum (USN), one of the members put together a show in Vegas, called it "The Gathering" and it was a huge success. Just had the Gathering II over Labor Day weekend and it was even better. Show during the days, GTG at nights..... So.....what do you think?

NYC or Chicago, I'll be there. No other restrictions other than make it Thursday thru Sunday. I'll bring the pepper.

Pittsburgh in June?
If we can host an international event, the G20 Summit, then why can't we host a national event (with international guests welcome, of course).
Might we throw Pittsburgh's hat into the arena, as we're already planning a June 2011 GTG here?

Pittsburgh in June is not too far off from those marks. Craig's right, though. The Pittsburgh G20 was probably the least "drama"-tized one that they ever held.

First of all, the invitation would have to come from an Aussie - Steve's the owner, and in order to get the largest attention and attendance, the invitation would almost have to come from him. Doubtful that he'd be up for a convention in the US of A, although I'd guess this is where the most TRFers are and, hence, the largest attendance could be achieved.
Second, there's a convention hall, meeting room or hotel space to be paid for - and vendors to be contacted and contracted with. Steve's in Oz, so a trusted Yanqui deputy would have to handle it in the States. That deputy would have to assume all of the risk - and it would be considerable (and I'm speaking from experience here). Of course, if it goes well, you've nothing to worry about - but if it goes poorly, if weather or a natural disaster or manmade disaster (think 9/11) happens, there's a guy with a lot on the hook. Third, TRF has a lot of members - but many are here for just a bit and then they leave. Real, hardcore members are not as many - and of those, only a small percentage will use their increasingly precious vacation time and dollars to go to a convention for a watch forum. I know I sound pessimistic, and I hate to be a wet blanket here, but..... hey, it's a great idea and I wish it could happen. But it may be a bit of a pipedream. Just my $0.02. That said, I'm willing to be surprised.

I'm up for an international meet !!
Also, I agree with the pitsburgh idea as well. There will be a LOT of TRF'ers there for that. Plus it's still plety of time away for those that would like to attend to get time off work. But, wherever it will be, so will I :) |
