Watch recognition

I have only had my smooth bezel DJ for a short time and have had compliments on it every time I have worn it. Today topped it all. 20s year old young man at the Apple Store was helping me with my iPad and after a few minutes said "Very Nice Looking Watch Sir". I thanked him and he went on to say he is a watch guy and liked the clean look of my watch.

I know many others have similar stories. I have never had this type experience with any other time piece. Pretty cool.

I've never had anyone compliment any of my Rolexes!

I do get a lot of attention with my TagHeuers. Go figure!

In the six weeks I've had mine I've had at least three people I can think of comment on it. One of them had a forty year old sub on and we compared watches and stories.

I have had some when I wear my 1655, and they usually are wearing some vintage Rollie themselves so that starts a conversation.

The owner of a restaurant that I frequent has complimented me on my domed bezel DJ on Super Jubilee twice.

As far as I remember, she's the only person who's ever spontaneously complimented my Rolex watches.

Didn't get a comment, but made one. Family friend was wearing his red sub, his wife hates it because she thinks it looks like a run down piece of garbage and wants him to buy a new Seiko or TAG to replace it, and since she knew I owned a recent and nice looking Seamaster she brought it up and tried to get me to convince him to buy one like mine.

Two hours of discussion about his vintage red later, she had that look on her face that a woman gets when she's thinking "If I divorce him, I'll still have to put up with him on occasion, but if I smother him in his sleep with a pillow, I'll never have to hear about it ever again". I guess neither of us really appreciated just how boring strap options are to someone that has no interest in the topic.

Was a beautiful piece he was wearing, and supposedly he has quite the collection.

On the very first day of owning my GMT-IIc, (which was last week only), I went out to a meal in the evening in town, with some work colleagues. Some of these guys were from the states. I sat next to a guy who I'd never met in person before, and immediately he clocked the GMT and said "Awesome watch!" and shook me by the hand. (He was also wearing a very nice Omega Speedmaster - a very cool piece too, which I took the opportunity to return the complement).

However, that's it so far, but I think that's pretty good going for one week in :-)

Not many notice the watch that I wear.

About 12 months ago an engineer did say to me (on clocking my SD).

"We pay you too much".

Had it been the TTc you would have needed a bigger cockpit.

As a general rule, people do not like you to have anything that is nicer than what they have themselves. Enthusiasts are maybe a bit different and a DJ wearer will admire your Daytona in the same way a sports car enthusiast with a 370Z will admire your Boxster.
I don't expect non-enthusiasts to either notice or admire my Rolex - and they DONT.

Sometime ago, I saw a TT DJ wearer and wondered if it was real.... something seemed odd and I stared at it a while....

After that, I know what's going on in people's mind when they stare at mine.... :)

I was at a local model airplane park today. I noticed that one of my retired civil engineer friends was wearing a Rolex so I took a picture of it. The time was about 5 minutes fast, date was not set, crown was not screwed in (he said something was wrong with the threads), and it was well-worn from 7 years of wear. He also said that an overhaul would cost $800, so he hasn't had it done. Anyway, here's some pics of his GMT Master and my GV.

I've had my Sub ND for almost a year and never once has anyone commented on it.

I didnt buy it to get comments and I feel that 99% of the general public have no clue what a nice watch is.

I have never received a compliment on my Rolex Sub or my Audemars Royal Oak. I do however get lots of compliments on my Cartier Roadster. Perhaps a little more "flashy" than the other two.

Although I bought my watches for me and not the admiration of others, it is still nice when they are appreciated!

My Tag gets a compliment twice in thailand before.. Once before para sailing and the other is before scuba diving. That is 2 compliments in 4 days

It has been total opposite for me. No one has ever noticed my Tag much less committed on it. Probably more to do with the model. Aquaracer Auto with white face kinda blends in well. My son on the other hand has had a few about his Aquaracer 500M Calibre 5.

I was thinking the same thing.

I like to have choked when it said the watch had been worn for 7 years.

That thing is nasty.

Something is terribly wrong with that picture, in my judgement.
