Turkey Holiday....

Not long back from Vegas and wore my Pepsi all the time and had no worries at all about wearing it, even through Customs and Imigration. Of course Rolex are commonplace in Vegas, so its no big deal. Going to Turkey on the 9th and my wife has said i can't wear my Rolex. A bit peaved, but i can see her point. Going on holiday gives me a chance to wear it on the plane and the airport. It has spoilt the holiday for me as i will have to wear a different watch. Anybody had any problems wearing a Rolex in Turkey or am i wise to leave it at home ?

I wouldn't worry about it, wore my DSSD when in Greece earlier this year & thought nothing of it......just enjoy the holiday.

Wore my YM all week last yr and had no issues, even round the markets. A lot of fakes around maybe?
In Egypt last oct there was a Russian old guy with a gold DJ or DD with a red face that did stand out a bit! A statement watch definitely.

Iam going to Ischemar near Marmaris. My wife goes ever year there with her friends and they all meet up,but her friend can't go this year so my wife said would i go with her. Out of all the places, this is the only time my wife has advised not to wear it.

Perhaps you can change out the bezel insert to all-black and then wear it on NATO so that it won't attract as much attention. That way, you get all the functionality without worry.

I went to Side and it was fine but if your wife knows the area and advises against it then it's not worth the worry or the grief if something does happen. Time to buy the black monster beater then!

well. if that's the case, better to play it safe, unless you have travel insurance to cover it

If the watch is insured I can not see why u can't take it with u. I'm taking my WG to Greece in November.

My household insurance covers the watch internationally for 100 days!

While u can insure your watch against loss, insuring
your life won't bring you back. If your wife says leave
it home, u might just do that and keep both of u
out of harms way.

We where 6 people and 5 hade Rolex watches.....I don´t think a single soul noticed what kind of watch any of us was wearing.

Here are som pics from the house we rented.....

No problem there are so many copies to be had in Turkey, most people will think yours is a copy.

Wear it!

I asked my wife if I could wear my Rolex if we went to Turkey.

She said - why would we want to go to Turkey?

Enjoy your trip - wear what you want mate.

or take my wife.

Been to Turkey a couple of times, both Alanya and Istanbul. You'll have a great time mate.

With regards to the watch, there are soooo many fakes knocking about in Turkey I dont think anyone will pay you any attention. When walking around the market sellers will no-doubt try and sell you a replica. Say you already have a fake then they wont bother you anymore. As long as you dont TELL them its real it wont be an issue.

This is my opinion; your wife has frequented this area and knows more about the local "wildlife" then most of us so I would err on the side of caution and take her advise.

oh btw - there will be many people want to sell you carpets...... and they can arrange worldwide shipping too.

Istanbl was great and we are looking at travelling to other parts of Turkey sometimes next year... or at least before they become part of the EU.

people were great & friendly (sometimes too friendly... in a good way though) and great food.

Seriously just wear the watch. I get the most enjoyment out of my watches whilst lying on a beach watching the sun shimmer off it. At this risk of sounding trite: I see no point in leaving watches behind when travelling.

Never ever had a problem wearing a Rolex anywhere in the world Turkey included, its just a watch much the same as any other watch except for a name on a dial..
