Anyone bought a twin of their favorite?
Hi guys,
I absolutely love the "new" 16600 M-Series Sea Dweller that I acquired earlier in the week. It has not left my wrist since it arrived. In fact, I am starting to get the feeling that I have found the perfect daily wearer for me. My interest in future Rolex purchases has diminished to the point of complete apathy and last night I even considered consolidating my collection a bit. My question is this...has anyone ever found a watch that they loved so much that they bought an exact duplicate to keep in the safe to have use of in the future? Because the 16600 has been discontinued, but there are still a few LNIB to be had, I am actually considering picking up another one so that I will never be without my beloved Sea Dweller. I need you guys to assure me that I am not crazy, or at least confirm that I am but support the decision anyway! (As a side note...anyone that has any reservations whatsoever about the wearability of the 16600 due to the weight/balance, just go out and buy one. I have a 6.75" wrist and find the 16600 to be the most comfortable Rolex sport model I have ever owned. It is true perfection.)

I had a Sub 16610 (now sold), a Sub 14060, a Tudor Sub 76100 and a Tudor Sub 79090.
4 stainless subs at one time (although each a bit different) is quite a lot of repetition!

Why not? If your feelings change in the future you could always flip it for something else.

Not exactly the same watch, I have a black 16613 and a blue 16613. Given the durability of Rolexes, I'm not very worried about one of my watches dying or wearing out.

I have both a LNIB SD and the new Sub-c. Does that count? 98.6743% of people don't see the difference anyway.

For me variety is the spice of life. But to each his own, and I can understand why someone else might choose this path.

I can see doing this in case your watch gets lost or stolen, but as you know with proper care you watch will last longer than you will... but do whatever helps you sleep at night :)

Yes you are crazy, but thats what Rolex do when you get the bug. I wouldn't get the same model as it has been pointed out the one you have got will probably outlast your lifetime, but hell go for it. We are all passing through life , and if it makes you happy and puts a smile on your face,do it.

Probably wouldn't buy a duplicate just to have it. I would consider it as a heirloom or a speculative investment. Just too many watches out there that I desire to go with just one.

How old are you?
Why do you think the one you have won't last? If you have the bucks, go for it, but I think you should hold off for awhile and see if it's just infatuation. I mean, you really can reasonably expect to bequeath that watch in good working order, even if you're in your twenties.

It is not a longevity issue at all. It is more an issue of it being stolen/lost, etc. and being unable to replace it with a brand new model in the future. Also, though, I think it would be pretty darn cool to pull a brand new 16600 out of the safe on my 55th birthday and strap a mint "vintage" SD onto my arm. Seriously...how many people on this very forum would like to reach into their safe right now and pull out a brand new 5513 or 1665?

I have 3 x GMT II but they all have different insert colours.
They could all be converted to the same colour but I would have great difficulty choosing! Peter |

I think I would just buy a few back up bracelets so the codes match up. I'm not really sure what a back watch would do for me, I would rather be wearing a watch that I am able to associate some memories with.

The 16600 is a very tough watch, I seriously doubt you'll ever be without one unless you count the 6 weeks it will spend at the RSC for servicing.
If you're itching to spend some cash, a wise investment IMHO would be a matte 16660. Nearly identical to your SD, but with the potential to become collectible. Just my

Your analogy of pulling a BNIB 16600 out of the safe in 25 years is pretty damn cool.... I had never thought of that before. Problem for me is I could never leave the stikers on it and not wear it even if I had 40 of them It would be BNIB for about 6 months max with me
If it is just to have I would do it. If your thinking about making $$$ off it in 25 years I would say do not. Take the $6k, invest in and in 25 years you should be able to buy 3 of them

I haven't but I have two Rolex-loving friends who have. One bought two Submariners and another two LVs for roughly the same reasons as you, so rest assured - you're not alone in your craziness!

Personally, I would get something else! Diversify your collection if you have the funds but in the end, it's really up to you brother!

I don't see why not, as long as you have the funds for it, and you seem to love it so much. I say go for it!
But if it were me, I'd resort to a "brother/sister" of the watch. Like a sub or a dssd. Gives me a few options that way..
