restoring finish to lugs? what to use?

hi guys,

i building up my watch maintenance tool kit. I was wondering what wmost of you use to refinish your lugs to restore thet diagonal brushed grain.

Is it commonplace to use the Bergeon satin finish blocks, if so which matches the lug finish best?

Thanks

I personally don't touch the lugs as it would be very difficult to get the perfect angle. I'm sure some other TRFers will be able to help you out.

Yeah, the lugs have an angled pattern that I doubt I can mimick. The bracelet however, is easier to be done.

I have a 1601 DJ that I have restored the brushed finish on the lugs a couple of times. I cut strips of ScotchBrite pads and glue them to tongue depressors which allows a more or less constant, even pressure. I mask off the bezel and case sides with some blue painter's tape and then use the above invention to brush the lugs. The key is to keep the correct diagonal angle and even strokes. It's like honing a knife blade, light pressure and go slowly.
Hope that helps!

Its best if you remove the bezel first, but a nail file works great..
