Adjusting Time and Date

When adjusting the time or date, it is advisable to turn the crown backwards or anti-clockwise?

I read from somewhere that this is not advisable on mechanical watches.

Is that true on ALL mechanical watches though. I read on that, those w/o a date function it doesn't matter - and may not even matter on those w/ the date?

Backwards or forwards, the important thing is to avoid changing the date/time during the 7pm-3am time frame when the little mechanisms are doing their thing to advance the date.

On any Rolex movement in the 3 series you should not have any problems. On movements before the quickset date feature it was advisable not to alter date between 8/9pm and 2am.

I always set the time and date at night within 7pm to 3am before going to bed to prep the watch for wear the next morning.

But i do this when the watch is dead on power reserve. So i need to wind up the watch.

I presume that doing this within the time frame is fine?

It makes no difference at all with any Rolex caliber 3*** watch. The following is included in the booklet which came with my N serial Sub:

Pos. 1 - Wearing position
Crown fully screwed-down crown.
In this position the Submariner Date is pressure-proof to a depth of 1,000 feet/300 m (660 feet/200 m for the Submariner and 4,000 feet/ 1,220 m for the Sea-Dweller).
The watch is ready to be worn.

Pos. 2 - Hand winding position.
Crown unscrewed to the point where it is free of the screw threads.
Watch is in position for handwinding if necessary.

Pos. 3 - Date setting position.
Crown pulled out to the first notch. Turning the crown clockwise advances the date rapidly - which is particularly useful at the end of a month of less than 31 days. (Turning the crown counter-clockwise has no effect). During these operations, the watch movement continues to function normally. For the Sea-Dweller, the date changes rapidly when turning the winding crown counter-clockwise.

Pos. 4 - Time setting position
Crown pulled out to the last notch. Position for resetting the hands either clockwise or counter-clockwise. The second hand is stopped automatically and will not advance again until the crown is pushed back home.
Screw the crown down fully to make the watch pressure-proof once again.

Would that apply to the GMT 16700?
