Submariner 11610 LV - Weird? Cool? A future collectible?
Having evidently had a relapse of "Rolex Fever", I find myself now in the acquisition phase of this "disease" .......and having just purchased an 18K/SS GMTIIC I now have my mind on a Submariner. While I will most likely purchase Black Ceramic 18K/SS Sub in the near future (I really like the two tone look) I will also be adding to my small group of stainless models as well, and have been considering the 16610LV (why is it sometimes referred to as LV and others as simply V, which is how they are noted "V" on the warranty as I recall) as it is a rather unusual combination, black dial/green bezel, and as it will have only been offered for sale for about 7 years, now being discontinued in favor of the 116610LV green/green ceramic.
My question is would you folks recommend adding one to the collection, or simply going green/green ceramic? Clearly initial cost of acquisition is a factor, as of course personal preference/taste. I like both looks, and will probably end up owning both, were I to get the 16610V first. I have an opportunity to purchase a brand new 16610V "V" serial number from a local AD for nice discount, and am inclined to go for it, based on price and potential future collectibility and because I like it .......and I wanted to hear the opinions of others, who might be more "in tune" to the Rolex Sport Watch culture these days, regarding this watch. I started off collecting vintage, so no box/papers in that arena, for me, collecting bubble backs, and the like, when I started in 1970. Am liking being able to build a nice collection with all boxes/paperwork, for the time being....and really liking being able to purchase direct from an AD at a nice discount! Thank you for sharing your thoughts and opinions with me! I appreciate the generosity of you all sharing your knowledge and opinions. |

If you like it, buy it. I don't believe it's "collectable", though, because it's not rare. The 16610 is my favourite Rolex, and lots of other people's too!
P.S. LV stands for Lunette Verte |

I tend to think that ceramic brings a lot, from an esthetic point of vue.

I had no idea I did, but evidently it is now! Looks like it's the 16610LV first. As the 116610LV really "POPS" that will be one for next year, perhaps, once the frenzy has died down......thanks for sharing!

You're welcome... ballpark $75 via a place with a parts account or from about $125 here on TRF!

If you like it...collect it. That's all there is to it. Rolex made a lot of 'em.
