First Gold Rolex - Submariner, GMT or Daytona?
Hi,
I am deciding what to buy next and was thinking of a sporty gold Rolex. I like the President but at 36mm it's a bit small for my taste, and the 41mm for some reason just looks out of proportion to me. I am not a huge fan of the blue dial Submariner, but like the black dial very much. So if you had a choice, would you go for the Sub black dial, a GMT, or a Daytona? I do like rose gold. Is the Daytona available in rose with the black dial? That seems like it would be a killer combo. Finally, in the Sub or GMT categories, vintage would be great, but how hard is it to find a vintage in good condition with papers? Thanks! Rob in Chicago |

I've been debating on whether to go YG Subbie or DD as well. I really like the black face Subbie in yellow gold. Just the bigger size makes it seem "grander: rich and thick"

Gold Daytona is a value as good condition are have of MSRP. While a SS Daytona are 90% of MSRP. However, what watch do you like out of the three.
No on the rose gold Daytona, white or yellow only. No problem finding gold Sub or GMT, but be mindful of bracelet stretch. If you like the President, the DJII at 40mm can be had in Rose Gold. Sounds like that is the watch for you. Welcome to TRF!!

I've thought about this myself. I think, if you're going to wear a lot of long sleeve shirts with it, I would go with a Daytona only because it looks cool from the side with the three pushers.

If it's gotta be a black dial...
18k GMT2C all the way. That was my choice.
I do love the blue dial sub though |

If I were to purcahse a Gold Rolex I would always have to consider the iconic Gold Rolex, the Day Date. Since you do not like that one my next choice would be a Gold Daytona. There are a couple more options of this model than any other model in gold to consider. This includes those on a strap. If I were you I would take a look at these first. The different dials and such are just amazing.
I might just have to select the Daytona in Rose Gold however as that is the one that made me smile first. |

If/When I was/am in your position a Rose Gold Daytona would be my choice.
With regards to the Black Dial, you should be able to select any dial you wish, provided its not exclusive to the more precious metal, which I don't think applies to the Black Dial and Rose Gold combo - i think that makes sense... lol |

Difficult choice, but I love my GMT IIc and think it looks GREAT in YG. I wouldn't buy an expensive YG Daytona only because the lack of date information.

I was debating the same topic with some friends.
The WG or YG sub would look killer on anyone. I loved the rose gold daytona with the black dial in pictures but when i tried it on it looked a bit dark/dull (still love the watch though). naturally tastes will vary. |

Difficult decision as you can't go wrong in any of your choices. My choice is the YG GMT only because i like GMT's better than the others, but they are all killer watches.

Thank you for all your replies which are as diverse as my broad question.
Guess I will take my time and try them all on. Does anyone else beside me like the YG President with the black onyx dial with no hour markers? The Spartan quality of the dial against the deep yellow gold is a real turn-on to me. |

For me, the DD or DDII will always be the ultimate, iconic Gold Rolex. However, since it doesn't do it for you, there is only one choice (actually two)..........the YG or WG Daytona with Panda dial..........wow!!!!
