longevity 1967 Rolex Datejust caliber 1575
Hello everyone !
My second post here, this forum is really great.... Here are the facts : I'm thinking about buying a 1967 Datejust, with the 1575 caliber. It has been overhauled by Rolex this year, everything is ok except the watertightness that isn't guaranteed by them. its price: 2300$. I'm looking for an everyday watch that I can keep for a lifetime. Do you think that it could do the job regarding the fact it has 45 years and that the caliber is not produced anymore? Will I be able in 30 or 40 years (if I'm still there!) to make it repair if it has a problem and to make it overhauled by Rolex without havig bad surprises ? Here's the watch http://cda.chronomania.net/forum_entry.php?id=39281 Thanks very much from your answears and greetings from France ! Louis |

I've got a 50's TOG that belonged to my father, and it's still a great watch. I also have a 1966 gold DJ that will last longer than me. I wouldn't be too concerned about the robustness of older Rolex.
I do think $2,300 is not a great price, though. However, with a recent service you could be pretty happy with this watch for lots of years. |

It looks different from my '68.
Does the ad say it is a redial? |

I'd keep looking for two reasons: first, the price isn't great and second the fact that it isn't water resistant makes me wonder about the condition of the case. Did the RSC tell you why they wouldn't guarantee the water resistance? When I got my 1966 1601overhauled at the beginning of this year, they warned me about the possibility that the case may be too damaged, in which case they wouldn't guarantee the water resistance unless I recased it. Lucky for me the case was fine. But seriously, if it isn't guaranteed to be water resistant, then sweat, rain, washing your hands etc...become possible sources of moisture. On a positive note, I think you'll love it once you find a nice piece. Vintage DJs have the nicest presence IMHO. Something about the acrylic crystal having a warmer glow to it. Good luck.

No, it's not saying it is a redial ... however I finally found (thanks to your precious advices !) a 1991 DJ, but there is no "T swiss made", just "swiss made". I saw that the T disappeared from 1998, hope it's not a fake ... Can it happen that there is no T in te beginning of the 90ies?
Thank you very much for your answears that have been very helpful .. great to be helped by someone from Texas, from Japan :) But I'm still anoyed by this T !! cheers |

It looks like a piano black (high gloss) dial. I have a tt version of this (1965 year). They look beautiful on the wrist. You can get a nice dj for a lot less than this price, just be careful and do some research. As for the age of the watch, It wouldnt bother me, condition is everything.

Price doesn't seem great, but if it was overhauled at Rolex it will outlive both of us. I have plenty of vintage Hamiltons, IWC, and Breitlings that I wouldn't dunk in the sink to clean, not a deal breaker for me. There are many fine watches that aren't waterproof.

About watch in first post...
I had Oyster Perpetual Date with 1575, and it was amazing watch. It was unbelievably accurate and reliable. And funny thing was that watch was never serviced, guy who sold it to me bought it in late sixties and never took it to watchmaker, let alone RSC! Anyway, 2300$ is bit high price, IMHO. Good luck!
