After reading over the different threads here, and gaining a whole bundle of knowledge from you guys, I think I am reading to go out and buy a Daytona. Only problem, there is soo many variations, I can't decide which one to get. I guess I will start by visiting the local AD's and get a feel for what is available.

With the S.steel just two options black dial white dial,with the TT and all gold model quite a lot more.

Thats the only way to do it..
Dont buy on impulse!!! read more....look at lots of pictures. try different models on your wrist...and spend alot of time researching the Daytona....
I usually have my AD hold the watch which I am thinking about buying for a week or two, so that I can make a rational decision without feeling pressured. Thats the nice thing about building a good relationship with your AD. I dont think many AD 's will hold a watch for this long for most customers.....but ofourse ..im special and they will do almost anything for me!!!

Yeah, don't rush. I researched and tried watches on for almost a year before I pulled the trigger. I am happy I took my time.

I'm partial to the white-face SS and the Paul Newman YG. Beautiful watches, the both of them. Glancing between my wallet and their two respective pricetags makes it easy for me to choose which is right for me.

Try on a range of them and see which smiles back!

Yea, thats the right advice, and especially try it on. Many people come away feeling underwhelmed b/c its not that big of a sports watch - I love it and think its the right size though. Watch buying for me is always about which one jumps out at me as none of the other watches I'm considering do. SS white face is a timeless classic (as is the black face), but there are some pretty awesome dial combos out there that are very elegant!

This part of the process to me is the most fun; wearing it is a close close second :)

I agree 100%...When I first started buying watches, I went looking for the biggest bang for bucks, which translated for me in big watches....now i have realized that its not the size.....The Daytona is pure Rolex class...understated but beautiful.....

Same. I first went for a Breitling Chrono Superocean, which is actually great bang for your buck but then I went for a Daytona for a more compartatively classy, understated look. Plus its much sleeker on my wrist which I like. That Breitling was a tank (fun in its own right though!)

I guess thats the nice thing about the superoceans...they have massive wrist presence...but also the great thing about daytonas, they have wrist presence because of ther understated beauty!

i feel your pain brother i am in the same boat as you. however, i think cost and the understated look of the ss with white dial is gonna be my choice. let us know how you get on.

I have a Daytona in 18k with a white face and gator strap....my favorite.

Try on as many variations as you can...over and over,,,,until you are certain. For me, the dial made all the difference in the world. If you decide to buy anything other than SS (i.e. a WG, YG, or TT Daytona) then I would buy it pre-owned / LNIB from a reputable seller to save significant $$. Good luck and enjoy the looking!

If you decide on a S/S Daytona and assuming you want to buy new, you'll have to pay either full list or perhaps a slight premium. Then again, you'll have one of the most desirable Rolexes on your wrist...

IMHO, the TT Daytona offers the best value for money - wide range of dial choices (black, white, grey, champagne gold, MOP and so on) available at a discount, and with some gold thrown in.

Best advice above is trying them on your wrist. Many models photograph better or worse than how they appear in person with naked eye. It's also in person that your heart will let you know.

Just remember no one displays the SS version even if they have it. Most places have a limited selection so have a look at the catalogue and try to visit a couple big ADs to get a look at as many varieties first hand as possible.

To be fair - if you really want a 116520 and not wanting to wait... and were lucky to be able to purchasr one at the right place at the right time, then it would certainly be an "impulse buy"
