Lug holes...no lug holes????

When did Rolex do away with lug holes in their watches? Are lug holes more or less desireable? I have seen a number of TRF members express a preference both ways on the issue of lug holes.

I love mine with lug holes...

Never could figure out why Rolex did away with them.

Looks good...Easy removal of spring bars...Love them!

Cheers!

I think it was around 2003. No lug holes give a cleaner look to the case but i think more people are opting for the lug holes showing, giving more of a vintage look. I think either way looks good.

I have not given it much thought until now... and I am undecided. I prefer vintage watches and have a long list of vintage watches I am researching and hunting for before I buy a new Rolex and face the no lughole conundrum...

For me it's easy.

Tool watch - Lug holes
Dress watch - No lug holes

That make sense.

DEFINITELY more secure bracelet with Lug holes while diving. I never dive with a Rolex unless it has Lug Holes.

Have you had any adverse incident with a non-lug-holed Rolex?

It was not a Rolex, but I was diving with a non drilled spring bar lug watch with a NATO. The NATO snagged on one of the spring bars and dislodged the bar. Luckily, the watch was still secured by one springbar, but it was flapping in the breeze underwater. There was no damage, and no loss...........HOWEVER........it sure did scare me.

I have thought about finding a non-drilled 16600 SeaDweller and getting fixed bars installed just for a diver to be used with NATOs and ZULUs.

Not sure about the sub, but the last year for lug holes with the Sea Dweller was the Y series, 2002.....
Some people like them......Some don't....
I prefer HOLES.....

For those who don't like lug holes--you just eliminated all of the classic vintage tool watches from your collection!!! DRSD's, Red Subs, 5512's, 5513's, 1665 Great Whites, 1675 GMT's etc. etc. Give me holes all day long!!!

Lug holes for me.

Looks better and I think the springbars are more solid too.

Why not one-sided lug holes? That will solve the problem.
