A never-ending affair with a Rolex...

This has been ongoing for me with the GMTIIC!

First time I saw it was when it was released from Basel - loved the look, the idea, the ceramic. Then I saw it in person and I didn't like the blockiness. Then I saw it in person again - and then I really really liked it.

I had 2 opportunities to buy it, but both times I passed on it for another Rolex!

Then for a little while, I became ambivalent to it, I didn't love it - but more or less just sorta liked it for what it was.

However, lately, I've been craving it again (after seeing pics online and on TRF)!

What's wrong with me!?!? Why can't I just decide to either love it or merely like it!?

like or hate...is that not a little extreme...maybe you like some things about it and maybe dislike others....seeing that you use the word hate, then it connotates enough deep dislike for you to draw conclusions..I would never buy an expensive watch unless I love the whole package..There are too many great watches to buy, Rolex or non Rolex, then setteling on one which you kind of like but kind of hate...my 2 cents....

Ah maybe not like or hate... bad words on my part.

I guess it's more:

Love and Like

Thanks for congratulating me. I must say the watch is pretty hefty. It gives off a bold presence when worn on the wrists. I do realize that the edges of the case are kind of sharp though. You can't go wrong with it!

Yeah.... I think part of the reason why I haven't pulled the trigger on the GMTIIC is because it reminds me too much of my Sub and I wanted to diversify my collection a little more before I get a watch that resembles another.

Yeah, that's gotta be it.

Come over to the dark side buddy!!! Most people like the SMURF over the GMT (116718), however, I beg to differ, I know they are two seperate metals yet IMO the GMT-C in all it's variations is one of the classiest modern day Sports Rolex models cash can buy. I know I got a little off topic, however, don't be afraid!!!

I know exactly what you're saying, Joey. I have the same "feelings" about the EXP II.
With the new one rumored to be released next year makes me even more undecided to get it already.

Agree, in fact thats why I haven't gotten the Sub yet because its to much like the GMTIIC that I already have.

But more than likely I will want to get a Sub eventually to complete my collection Possibly a LV or a vintage maybe.

Its interesting you bring this topic up. I've been in a similar quandry over the Pt Yachtmaster. It photographs wonderfully, looks great in person, yet when I had the opportunity to wear it for a whole day I realized that it just didnt work for me. Im not sure why other than it was just too much grey, monochromatic-ish. Therefore, if you have the chance, try to borrow one from a fellow collector (if you know someone good enough to do this) and wear it for a whole day....then decide.

I'm wearing mine today. I think it's one of the best, if not the best, looking new SS watch that Rolex offers. I'm thinking about brushing the links next.

Here is my opinion. You have the non ceramic sub, therefore, when you have the GMTIIc you will like the bling from the ceramic dial along with the PCL finish which is why you may feel comforatable in the end . It will compliment your current watch even if they both have black bezls. It is a dressier watch.

Good luck to you!
