Finally saw the 116610LN Sub in the flesh

Hello gents:

I was at a local AD recently, having not been in some time. I got a chance to see the 116610LN, some time after its debut at Basel.

I was really knocked down. As in all things, photos just don't do justice. I was amazed at how good the dial looks. There is a richness to the colour which confirms for me that Rolex hits the perfection of colour saturation better than any other company out there. The dial reflects light in the most pleasing way, which led me to stand, transfixed, as I gently moved the watch to different angles to catch the light and enjoy its play across the dial.

The Cerachrom bezel is also much better looking in person. I was concerned by initial reports that the insert looked like plastic, but I found that this did not appear to be the case to me at all. The bezel looked appropriate to the watch.

The other improvements, such as the clasp, are excellent, and I was very sorry to have to hand this one back to the salesman. I also liked the beefy case, the larger indices making the dial a "maxi" dial, if that term is still in effect.

Out of deference to this model, I have put on my M series LV today. The green of my bezel is much lighter, not as dark a green as I would like, but still a Rolex colour, which always bears being looked at.

I also saw the Deep Sea in the flesh, and once again, so, so much better to see in the flesh than in photos. It looks much better than the photos represent; the case design and size, the domed crystal, the dial arrangement, the new clasp (!! so much better!). And it wears much, much better than I thought it would.

I also saw the ladies' Datejust with the floral design that premiered at Basel this spring. I would love that one for my wife, since it puts me in the mind of the Edelweiss flower designs that one sees frequently in Switzerland. My association with said designs is springtime in the Swiss mountains and the lifting of the spirit wrought by the fresh air and sunshine that a trip to the Matterhorn will imprint upon you. Subjective perhaps, but I would love to get that one for my wife.

In any event, a very pleasant visit, except for developing some very powerful yearning for new watches I can't afford at the moment............

No kidding! It was tough to get out of there. I also saw two Millguass models, but I still can't get around not having a date function on my watch.

There was a lonely white dial Z series Explorer II, bit none of the old GMTII. I have a Z series Pepsi, and you know, its still a beautiful piece. But the TT GMT IIc I think would take its place.

The 116610 LN is a very nice looking Sub.A true diver classic.

It is quite nice in person! My AD has one sitting next to ND Sub--it makes the ND look like a classic!! I might have to grab one while it is still out there-the ND that is.
As for the new Sub--superb new design--thumbs up!!!!
